weather has had a huge effect but time for rupert and zaidpour if sn is his choice look solid enough ew , like diamond harry as a horse and will be interested to see how he progresses , also following ghimaar wherever he goes as he is my favourite horse in training.

A few i think could maybe be overpriced
Go Native at 38 for the Champion Hurdle - won the supreme here in 2009 and went off fav for the Ch last year after hacking up in the Fighting Fifth and winning the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton "He's very, very sore," the trainer told At The Races on Tuesday. "He stretched at the second and was lucky to stand up - he landed on one leg over it. "He's certainly not going to run again this season and how long it will hold him up I don't know. "From the time he made the mistake he never travelled. It was very disappointing, but that's how races go." 38 could be an overreaction to that run imo _________________________________________________________________________________________ Big Zeb at 6.2 for the Champion Chase His price is an overreaction to Master Mindeds 2 wins imo - of course he has been very impressive but after Albertas Run fell at Ascot he had nothing to beat and did put up a good performance winning at Cheltenham after but imo won as he should have from Petit Robin Big Zeb is the reigning Champion when destroying the field last year and was impressive on his seasonal return when cosily beating Golden Silver who went on to win the G2 Hilly Way Chase very easily last week 6.2 BZ v 3 MM - Big Zeb at those prices all day for me _____________________________________________________________________________________ Albert Bartlett - Champion Court at 21 14Nov10 Cheltenham ( 21 GS ,RPR138 ) It was a big ask coming here first time out over hurdles, but we were lucky it was a small enough field for Warren (Marston) to drop him out and give him an education. I love the way he's done it. He's a big baby with lots of improvement in him, and he'sobviously got a big engine. He was quite novicey, and there will be more to come when the penny drops. He'll step up in trip now and the Albert Bartlett will be the main aim. He's a real good horse. - Martin Keighley, trainer. So the race is the aim- was very impressive on hurdles debut staying on very strongly up the hill, jumping was a bit sketchy but it was his first run over hurdles and should improve again for that run and could be a very decent animal winning a G2 on his first start over hurdles at the course Anything around 20 is very fair i think _______________________________________________________________________________ |

Gold Cup a possibility for Mikael D'Haguenet
BY RACINGPOST.COM STAFF 12:54PM 19 DEC 2010 MIKAEL D'HAGUENET, 25-1 with the sponsor for the Totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, will be entered for the festival showpiece, trainer Willie Mullins said on Sunday. The 2009 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle winner fell at the last when in with a winning chance in the Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse last Wednesday on his first run over fences, following a long absence. Mullins said: "He will be entered in everything at Cheltenham. He won the Ballymore over two miles five, but he has plenty of speed over two. "The RSA is three mile one and the Gold Cup is three mile two and that's another ball game. We have never been worried about him staying. He's one of those horses that can change gear and go with faster horses as well." He also told At The Races: "I'm looking at the entries for Christmas. He's in the two-mile novice (Bord Na Mona With Nature Novice Chase) on St Stephen's Day [December 26] and the three-mile novice later in the week." |

8/1 Mikhael D'hageunet for the RSA is a great price if we knew he was going, I've heard Mullins say plenty of times that he likes to keep novices in novice races. Fivefourthree is in the mix aswell so its hard to know. Surely they won't run him in the Gold Cup as Ruby wouldn't like to desert Kauto and as this could be his next flagship horse he wouldn't like to have to choose between them. I'd have thought MD is a better horse than Time for Rupert, I feel his run behind Big Bucks has been a bit overrated, He never at any stage looked like winning imo. Agree re Big Zeb btw

Somersby in the ryanair crying out for a step up in trip

I think the biggest misconception about Somersby is that he wants a step up in trip. People need to look beyond the 'grand big horse, jumps well - lets up him in trip'. The horse wouldnt get home over 2m5f in Cheltenham unless it was in a horsebox, lets not forget he is by Second Empire. 2m is pretty much the extreme of trips for him. Rather than giving him a step up in trip he needs a jockey that can ride him with confidence as Hadden Frost certainly isnt the right combination for him. Pop him out front rank, let him get a clear sight at every fence and make much of his pace and jumping ability. I am on Somersby at 70+ for the Champion Chase and on goodish ground he wont be out of the mix. If by some chance he does run in the Ryanair then I will place lay him for every bean I have and more besides.
As an aside Somersby half brother Cucumber Run is by Oscar and is already showing himself up to best suited by a quick 2m. His only win is at Kempton over the minimum, he paddled home over 2m3f in Newbury last week having looked the winner over the 2nd last. I dont know where this influence comes from as they are ex a presenting mare who is herself out of an Over The River mare which obviously doesn't suggest 2m. |

on MDH, I think backing him for the RSA is akin to burning money. If he is good enough to win that then he certainly wont be running in it.

gimmeabreak , i disagree re somersby . i dont think he has the class to win a champion chase , he is one of those horrible horses that donesen't have a trip imo . he will struggle no matter what the trip is . i backed him lto and agree that frost gave a bad ride . he never presented him correctly at his fences . having said that this horse will find it hard to win a top class race over any distance .....

I am sounding repetitive now but I don't think Punchestowns would truly stay the GC distance. FWIW, he is my Ryanair horse.

Most impressive potential top class Irish Nh horse I have seen recently is Zaidpour . Stays well , ultra important at Cheltenham .

Gimmeabreak, Meath handler Robbie Hennessy will train Table Mountain. The son of Milan was snapped up for 200,000gns from competitors Paul Webber and Charlie Swan. Hennessy wouldn't be my fav trainer but we will just have to wait and see what kind Table Mountain will be. He purchased Donegal at the same sale 2 years ago and look at Donegal now lol ..Hold Your Horses :)

Too early in the year for a Banker, but below I've mad a list of some of my fancies for Cheltenham ..
*Zaidpour NI Hurdle - Guaranteed to stay well. Class act who looks the part. *Mikael D'haguenet RSA/ Gold Cup - Mullins always used to say hurdling was a bonus as hes built for chasing, probably will stick with novices. Don't think he will be beat in this division. *Reve De Sivola RSA - Sure to be alot slicker next time out, RSA could turn out to be once again mouthwatering. Time For Rupert another one possibly to be in the race. *Diamond Harry Gold Cup - Straight to this race, fantastic ew price. Take an ew double with himself and Reve for their respective targets. *Quevega - If she goes for DN Mares hurdle she'l walk home, I think she should be given at chance with the boys in the CH, will get her allowances also. Mullins has HF here so might not do this. One to watch for festival. |

LAST year's Fighting Fifth and Christmas Hurdle winner Go Native will not contest the Stan James Champion Hurdle in March, having been ruled out of action for the entire season by trainer Noel Meade.
The seven-year-old, who was as short as 14-1 with Coral for the Champion Hurdle - for which the sponsor quotes 25-1 - was injured when making a mistake at the second hurdle in last season's renewal and has notrun since. Meade had not intended to train him for the first half of the season, with a return in January at Leopardstown for the BHP Insurances Irish Champion Hurdle suggested, and reported his vets "100 per cent happy with him" in October. Meade told the Racing Post: "He came back into work, but we weren't happy with him and decided not to continue. He will hopefully be back next year when the plan will be the Champion Hurdle again."  |

With regard to Mikeal i would have thought Mullins would send him down the Arkle route. The topic of the RSA bottoming out Novices has been well debated but there is no doubt that Cooldine has not been the same horse since he won the race and it looks like weapons amnesty won't run this year. The Arkle is proving to be equally as effective as a gold cup trial with Kicking King, Kauto etc running in it. It has to play on connections minds.
Finding it hard to get a standout one at this stage. My two are Wymott and Ghazio at biggish prices. Wymott wasn't exactly breath taking the other day but then again the RSA is never won by flashy sorts just stayers. I also agree that Big Zeb will take all the beating with BJG up on board. |

Kauto never ran in the Arkle Swinia, he ran and fell in the Champion Chase but i agree that if Mikael goes down the novice route i think it will be the Arkle too, thought so last year and don't see why i should have a different opinion. War If Attrition was another who went the Arkle route before winning a Gold Cup.

MULLINS FACING FIVE BATTLE Willie Mullins admits he is facing a race against time to have Fiveforthree at concert pitch for the Cheltenham Festival. The County Carlow trainer has yet to decide whether to keep the 2008 Ballymore Properties Novice Hurdle winner to the smaller obstacles for this season or send him chasing. Fiveforthree has not run since landing the Ladbrokes.com World Series Hurdle at Punchestown in April 2009, but is now back in full training. "He did his first bit of work the other day and has done two or three pieces of fast work now and I don't know if he's going to go chasing or not yet," Mullins told At The Races. "We can't even school on this ground the way it is at home. He's a good jumper but we might have to review the situation over Christmas and give him another season over hurdles. "We had intended at the start of the season to go chasing. However, here we are at Christmas and you have to make the most of your novice year. "If you want to go to Cheltenham, time is running out, but there are lots of chases to be won over there and maybe with that's what we want to do. Maybe we'll start off in a beginners chase, hopefully he'll stay sound and then we can try to get a few more and skip Cheltenham. "If you are going to Cheltenham you have to prepare for it and that time is running out." |

MULLINS CONSIDERS ESPRIT OPTIONS Quel Esprit could return to Limerick where he opened his chasing account rather than have his second run over fences at Leopardstown. Trainer Willie Mullins was delighted with the six-year-old's victory at Limerick last month and is eyeing a novice contest there on Boxing Day. Quel Esprit also holds an entry in the Grade One Fort Leney Novice Chase at Leopardstown tomorrow week. "He did win his novice in Limerick and that was franked the other day when Torphichen won the beginners' chase at Clonmel," Mullins told At The Races. "Sometimes I like horses to go back to where they won. The old saying of horses for courses and there's a nice novice chase in Limerick on St Stephen's Day (December 26) and that could be where he'll go. "He was a little bit disappointing at the end of last season. I thought he was one of my better chances going to Cheltenham and he disappointed, but hopefully he'll make up for that over fences." |

After he won at Cheltenham few weeks ago: Paul Duffy, owner of Reve De Sivola, said: "He is relentless at the back end of his races but he will definitely come on for this as Nick's horses have been held up in the weather. We have always thought of him as a Gold Cup horse in the making but that will be next season as his target this time will be the new two and a half mile novice chase at the festival." FML
