Aston Villa outcast Stephen Ireland is understood to be ready to end his international exile as he seeks a move in the January transfer window.

The midfielder joined the midlands club who as an £8m makeweight in James Milner¹s big money move to Manchester City bt has failed to settle in at Villa.

New boss Gerard Houllier is prepared to listen to offers for the 24-year-old as he looks to rebuild a Villa side lying four points above the relegation zone.

Ireland retired from international football in 2007 after falsely claiming his grandmother had died. He has stated on a number of occasions that he would not return to the international team but now that his career has stalled at Villa, he looks to have changed his mind.

Giovanni Trapattoni has previously attempted to get Ireland to reconsider his decision and now the player has told friends: “I am seriously thinking of calling Trap in the next few weeks and hopefully can work my way back into his plans. If I can¹t get a move in January then I need to look at the summer and playing for Ireland will at least put me in the shop window.”

The midfielder watched the 2-1 win over local rivals West Brom from the stands after failing to make the Villa squad and will be available for around £4m as Houllier looks to bolster his struggling squad.

Had his chance now he is playin absolute shoite and wants back in- leave him where he is! In the reserves at Villa

Hard to disagree with what you say, he is clearly a very complicated individual. He strikes me as an idiot with a mental deficiency but at his best he is way better than anything else we have. Mark Hughes demonstrated that he can be managed. We are not good enough to be able to afford to omit our best players for any reason so, yes hes a clown, but if we can have him playing like he was a year or so ago, Id suffer that.

He should go to Ipswich and team up with that other traitor Roy Keane where they  can fade into oblivion together.

give him a break,every1 deserves a second chance, hes not playin well at the moment because his manager doesnt want him at the club,if he had the right manager hed be 1 of the star midfielders in the premiership,we should be praying that he might be willing to come back to play for ireland.

We are not in a position to pick and choose and although he is poor atm, a player like him is what Ireland needs.  He also needs a kick in the ass and apologise to everyone for his behaviour.  We need a creative player now more than ever.

But he's admitting he only wants to play for Ireland to put himself in the shop window.
If he hadnt said it we'd all know that was the reason anyway but the fact he has said it sums up what an absolute arse he is!!

Amazing how he does not give a monkeys about playing for ireland. I knew he would do this. Sums the cunnnt up. Put himself back in the shop window. He has some cheek but he knows he will probably get back in due to the lack of talent. Disgusting to be honest i dont care. Footballers in general are scum and i bet if he wants to come back he will. I really hope the scum bag never plays at any sort of level ever again he is what is wrong with football.
