Dublin's four local authorities are likely to cut off water supply to residents from 7pm until 7am tomorrow due to a severe shortage of water.

A final decision will be made this afternoon.

The likely restriction to supply will apply in Dublin City, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin regions.

Some residents having been running their taps over the duration of the cold snap in the hope this will prevent their pipes from freezing.

Residents are being urged today, that if a restriction is introduced, they should not fill their bath tubs with water, as their water tanks will have sufficient supply to get them through the night

As usual in life people's stupidity rebounds on them --leaving taps running ffs ...
can they not lag or protect their pipes any other way ?

Simple solution is spray on expanding foam and cut to length around pipes. Water meters long overdue
