Sounds like the only person he wasn't popular with was Mike Ashley.

Bet he isnt long on the market though - He's a sound man and will be sought after.

He did well to motivate what was largely the same group of players that got them relegated, one thing I definitely noticed was that the fitness levels seemed a lot higher under Hughton than the season they got relegated, It seems they were really trying for him and this looks a bad decision. I reckon Martin O'Neill will take over, and while he is a terrific motivator, which I think is an especially important factor with this group, his dealings in the transfer market have been hit and miss at Villa(high wage bill left behing, and paid a lot of money for players he never picked) and Ashley mightn't be too free with the cash which is understandable in this climate. Despite these reservations I feel he is the best available.

Martin O Neil likes a big transfer budget I can't see him taking the Toon job in a month of Sundays.

Hughton spent peanuts and Newcastle are sitting safely in mid table. Ashley must have an alter ego in his business life because for such a wealthy guy he's probably among the top 3 worst owners in the PL.

Newcastle are a decent bet for relegation
