A mate of mine works in the Star and he just forwarded me the below which he received today -

Sunday 5th December 2010

BETFAIR, the world’s biggest betting community, today announced an offer which will, quite literally, get punters all pumped up.

Budget 2011 is expected to be the toughest in the history of the State but Betfair are planning to ease the Budget Blues by giving away €50 of free petrol or diesel to any thirsty vehicle which makes it to the pumps at the Maxol Service Station on Mespil Road, Dublin 4, between 10am and 12 noon tomorrow, Monday 6th December.

The offer will no doubt come as a welcome relief to brow beaten motorists and consumers who can only be looking ‘forward’ to Tuesday’s speech by Minister Brian Lenihan with trepidation.

Betfair Spokesman Barry Orr commented today: ‘’Our customers are betting that there will be a significant increase in the price of petrol, so before the inevitable happens, we’re offering a straight up, no strings attached, free fill-up’’

‘’All you have to do is get to the nearest Service Station to Dail Eireann, the Maxol Station on Mespil Road, between 10am and 12 noon and we’ll top up your tank to the tune of €50’’

‘’Hopefully the offer will come as a welcome throwback to the heady, carefree days of the Celtic Tiger before the harsh reality of this Budget hits home on Tuesday afternoon! At Betfair, punters are used to getting better value on their betting but on this occasion, we felt we needed to go a step further to put a smile, however fleeting, back on the face of the Irish Public''

nice touch if you can get in!

BUMPER TO BUMPER AS BETFAIR BEAT’S BUDGET BLUES

2.30pm, Monday 6th December 2010

BETFAIR, the world’s biggest betting community, grabbed the attention of the Irish public today with a pre-Budget offer that saw motorists flock to the nearest filling station to Dail Eireann (see attached pictures).

With Budget 2011 set to deliver a harsh message to the country as a whole on Tuesday, including a potentially significant hike in the price of petrol, Betfair eased the Budget Blues for some by giving away €50 of free petrol or diesel at the Maxol Service Station on Mespil Road, Dublin 4, between 10am and 12 noon today.

Betfair Spokesman Barry Orr commented: “We expected a positive response from the public but could never have anticipated the buzz it would generate or the numbers that we saw descend on Mespil Road. Everybody seemed to know about it, whether from the media, online, work colleagues, friends or literally seeing the branding whilst driving by.”

“Although cars were bumper to bumper, the Traffic Corp managed the excess traffic well and people were very appreciative of the offer.  We ended up filling over 125 vehicles in the two hour period so we’re delighted to have sent those people home to face the implications of Budget 2011 with a tonic in their tank and a smile on their faces’’.
