Looks like this could be sold out by the weekend. It's set to be the biggist indivdual club match of any sport for many a year. Impressive stuff i have to say and the tickets are not even available to the general public yet, they will only go on sale on Saturday, so if you're a neutral better snap these up quickly or hope the FAI open up more of the stadium and i am sure there will be serious pressure on them to do so. Should be a great day and a great football match with a number of internationals on display.

For betting Sligo Rovers have two of their best players suspended so Shamrock Rovers will be heavier favs.

I hope you lads get a big crowd as it seems your anchor tennant got the pricing wrong for the International rugby.

€10 is good value, you nearly wouldn't get into a county final for that.. How many do you expect to attend?

Fair play to the internationals to give up their Sunday to come over and watch the match.......nice touch for the lads at grass roots level.
Report kd109 November 4, 2010 4:45 PM GMT
How many seats have the FAI made available at present?
Report applehunter November 4, 2010 5:31 PM GMT
I went to the 2 county finals down here in Cork

€18 for the hurling
€20 for the football

and thats for the pleasure of sitting in the delapidated Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

€10 for a cup final in the new Lansdowne Road is great value if you are living around the Dublin area.
Report Rocketfingers November 4, 2010 5:52 PM GMT
I would say up to 30k depends on how much they (FAI) want to let in. Gantoo number of Internationals will be playing some with World cup finals experience and a few with african nations finals experience. Ticketmaster only start selling them saturday. I have to say great pricing strategy from the FAI they don't always think of the fans but this time i think they have.
Report huddys November 4, 2010 6:16 PM GMT
yes should be a great day, shamrck rovers tickets are selling very good, say we will be looking for more tickets, our allocation should be sold out by the wkd
Report Rocketfingers November 4, 2010 6:27 PM GMT
I heard both clubs were looking for more tickets actually that where i am getting mine through the extra allocation as wanted a side view. I think it will be the highest paid into club match in Ireland in any sport in years. They will break 30k if they open up the upper tier.
Report irishro November 4, 2010 6:45 PM GMT
There was 34,000 in Croke Park last St. Patricks Day. Will be doing well if they get close to that.

Irishro there was 34,000 on St Patrick's day to see the club hurling final and the gaelic club football final 17,000 an avg for both games i think it is fair to say. This will be just one match and it will in excess of that avg.

Kavvie you're just jealous that 2 of our clubs could pull so many. Gantoo, Wayside and einstein himself Daradasi will be riding to his aid as we speak. I don't think they will have any other choice but open up the top tier.
Report squigs November 4, 2010 10:42 PM GMT
GAA club football is small towns playing at Croke Pk and the near equivalent the winners of the Cork AUL playing the Dublin District league winners.

34,000 for St Galls Kilmurry-Ibrickane and Portumna v Ballyhale which would draw a crowd is just amazing. It's parish sport.

Slag the GAA off about certain things but to have a go at the crowds at GAA matches and then use a match between Irelands best followed club and a premier division team who have had an excellent cup run, which may or may not break the 30,000 barrier leaves you somewhat open for ridicule.
Report workrider November 4, 2010 10:57 PM GMT

Report waysidewill November 4, 2010 11:34 PM GMT
Rocket don't know why you're mentioning me, I hope and assume they will get a good crowd. I want to see soccer played in good venues on good pitches in front of big crowds in this country, not the rubbish we're subjected to in run down empty grounds at the moment.

One thing on the FAI final attendance though, once the pairing was known and the prices announced I straight away expected that the crowd would be 45,000 plus. Anything less should be a huge disappointment, as you have the so called best supported soccer team in Ireland, you've also Sligo bringing 8,000+, there's virtually free admission which will bring people with no great interest in LOI soccer who will just want to attend an affordable soccer occasion at the stadium, plus the novelty of it being the first final (proper trophy presentation)at the Aviva.

If, in those conditions, the FAI can't get a more or less full house for a final then they never will and domestic soccer here will forever be only third rate rubbish because it will confirm that no matter what the FAI do, people just aren't interested.
Report Rocketfingers November 4, 2010 11:43 PM GMT
Acytually they brought 7,000 to tallaght last year so 10,000+ won't be that much of a difference although your riht who would not want to see the best stadium in Ireland?

Squigs St Galls is from Belfast Belfast population must be approx 250,000 30 to 40% probably have no interst that still over 150k compare into Sligo 20k just goes to show how clubs soccer is taking off over half the town will be forking out for tickets to Aviva. Let the good times roll.
Report squigs November 4, 2010 11:48 PM GMT
There are a number of GAA clubs in Belfast, St Galls are just one of these.

Sligo Rovers are the only LOI side in Sligo.
Report Rocketfingers November 4, 2010 11:59 PM GMT
You're right Squigs but Galls are by a mile the biggest no other club are even close they are the Belfast club, i think there are 3 in total you still looking at 80,000  and with Galls probably closer to 125,00 people for their club Sligo 19,000 town sold over 10k tickets, Belfast is also closer to Dublin so no excuse.
Report GANT007 November 5, 2010 12:31 AM GMT
Tallaght is the 3rd largest urban area in the country..........anything short of a full house on the biggest day of the Irish soccer year would be dissapointing......especially €10 a head and deals for groups of schoolkids.

Rocket thats fantastic news, the nation holds its breath. I still dont understand though why the combined capacity of all of our premier league clubs is under 50,000. Simply doesnt tally with the masses going along to the cup final? Whats goin on?
Report Rocketfingers November 5, 2010 1:09 PM GMT
gantoo as a GAA member we could only get 17k for both the hurling and the football i think anything over that is massive. The womens final was free in does not really count in my view. Sure only the Hurling final sold out Croke Park teh football final did not and that a 32 county sport. Sad
Report GANT007 November 5, 2010 1:41 PM GMT
Dont be comparing this to GAA club sides.....this is premier league professional soccer......This is the same as county teams imo.....I'm sure the shamrock rovers lads dont go and play for another team like county and club GAA players......Roscommon v Sligo had 23,573 people at the connacht football final......Tallaght has a population of 100k +...................Your not doing service to your sport by comparing it to GAA club teams.

Shamrock Rovers are not a professional team, if there was a county system in football they would play for their counties. But these are just clubs like in the GAA Shamrock Rovers hope to sign a lad because he works in Tallght hospital, coming to the rescue during the day and entertaining the country at night, now gantoo that would be great bit of PR for the club.

Would most counties be able to field a team to compete or is soccer just confined to large urban areas.
