TRAINING legend Bart Cummings is set to lose Australian racing's latest thoroughbred superstar So You Think, with global breeding and racing giant Coolmore Stud taking a share in the stallion.
Details are yet to be finalised but the dual Cox Plate-winning four-year-old, by Coolmore's gun stallion High Chaparral, is set to be valued around $60 million. So You Think could well join the Ballydoyle yard of Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien, who is Coolmore's main man in Europe.
It is believed Coolmore is keen to target next year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in France, considered to be the staying championship of world racing.
Should everything come together, a start in the Arc might well set up a return bout with the French stayer Americain, which won the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. So You Think finished third after starting as short-priced favourite.
So You Think is owned by Cummings loyalist Dato Tan Chin Nam, with the pair winning four Melbourne Cups. The Malaysian billionaire races So You Think with friend Tunku Ahmad Yahaya.
Chin Nam's racing manager, Duncan Ramage, confirmed yesterday the pair ''have sold equity in the horse to Coolmore Stud'', although ''details of what happens going forward have not been formalised''.
''There are still protocols in the transaction to be completed before it is signed, sealed and delivered. However, they are going to race and breed the horse as a joint venture,'' Ramage said.
''It is known Coolmore would like to race the horse in Europe, and we would have to take that into consideration when working the detail out.
''Dato has always campaigned his horses in Australia, and Bart is probably not in a position to campaign a horse overseas for a lengthy period of time. It has been a lengthy and procrastinated decision for Dato in regards to what to do.''
Coolmore Australia's racing and business manager, Tom Magnier, who is the son of the massive operation's co-founder, John Magnier, yesterday agreed the fine detail had yet to be worked out.
''That is still to be finalised but [Chin Nam is] a very lucky owner, and we'd be happy to race the horse with him,'' Tom Magnier said.
Ramage confirmed the horse had emerged from the Melbourne Cup in good order. He reported that interest in So You Think, which has won eight of 12 starts, five of them in group 1 races, while amassing $5,734,350 in prizemoney, had arrived from all manner of studs. ''There was that much interest in the horse Dato had to come up with some sort of deal,'' Ramage said.
''[So You Think] will go back to Dato's Think Big Stud at Bowral and wait for the formalities to be concluded.''
Coolmore paid $20 million for the Paul Perry-trained Choisir following trail-blazing victories in Britain seven years ago. Other Australian gallopers Coolmore has bought in recent years are Haradasun, a Royal Ascot winner for O'Brien before being retired, and Starspangledbanner.

The Aussies are not known for talking down their horses .
I watched the Melbourne Cup previews etc , and every jockey and every connection was buoyantly full of hope . The only one who was playing his horse down was Dermot Weld . Later events proved to me he was one of the few realists there . The first 3 in the race were all horses who had won their latest sets of races , 4 , 3 and 5 I think , their form was there to be seen . Usually that means the form pointers from the race are good , and while I can buy into that , the rest were beaten all ends up and I wonder what was behind the first 3 . If the race had been at the Curragh I do not honestly think Profound Beauty would have been run by Dermot Weld , so not a yardstick by any means , and betting pattern indicated it had no chance .
To me See You Think did not stay 2 miles at the not breakneck gallop , not much of a surprise as nobody would be trucking up a 2 miler mare to High Chaparral I suspect . Aussie form is not as good as the Aussies sometimes try to imply . Sprinters are better than their stayers generally .
Horse would only justify a 60 million worth deal if it translates Cox Plate form plus to Europe or America . If it continues to race exclusively in its current part of the world it will be hard to prove its a 60 million deal horse .
