Win or lose the jockeys title this year he is riding like a man possessed at the moment.
It is great to see him finally fully realising the full extent of his ability.
He was a lways a good jockey but now he is proving himself a brillant jockey

Some effort by both jockeys. I wonder will Hughes be going to the States after all??
Would like to see Hanagan hold on though.[:x]

Jeez he must have been sick last night when the Irsih filly conked out 50 yards from the line with the race won.
He could ride up to and including Wolves next Friday and still make Kentucky for the Saturday.
I still think he has every chance

Richard Hannon junior has raised the intriguing possibility of title-chasing rider Richard Hughes missing the Breeders' Cup meeting in his quest for championship honours this week.

Hughes is scheduled to ride the Richard Hannon-trained Paco Boy against the mighty Goldikova in the Breeders' Cup Mile on Saturday, while he is also pencilled in for the mount on Tale Untold on Friday's Churchill Downs card.

It had been thought his last day to make an impression on long-time leader Paul Hanagan would be Thursday, before jetting off to Kentucky. The Flat season comes to a close in Britain on Saturday at Doncaster.

But Hannon, son and assistant to his father, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "I think there's every chance (he might stay), this means more to him I think - Breeders' Cup horses don't come along very often, but I think a shot at the title probably means he might well stay, certainly for Friday's racing.

"He won't be in this position again I don't think because Ryan (Moore) has missed a lot of this year, there's no time like the present so for that reason I think he might well stay and have a go at the title."

Hughes trailed Hanagan by three going into Monday's action.

I saw all three head to heads and Hanagan was on the best horse on all three and lost (much to my cost yesterday)

In terms of ability there is only 1 champion. I always felt Hughes had a chance because he rides Kempton, Lingfield and Wolver so well and that is where it will be decided, not Doncaster

No disrespect to Hanagan who seems to be a nice bloke who works hard and gives his all but Hughes is the far superior stylist.
It was fascinating to see them riding side by side at Lingfield recently. Hanagan was more upright and awkward looking and bobbing around more . I'm not saying that can't be effective -but Hughes was so balanced and calm he seemed part of the horse . Irrespective of titles -Hughes for me any day .

A good day for Hanagan today though including beating Hughes in a headbobber

Hughes not travelling to the BC, Moore rides Paco Boy.

I have to say im amazed at that decision. If he had paid this much attention to the championship all summer he would have had it won by now

I don't think he was interested in the championship during the summer. Circumstances changed with Ryan Moore out for a few weeks and the Stoute stable not firing.
He suddenly realised that it was only himself and Hanagan.

He clearly wasn't interested in the title for most of the season, even taking a week's holiday at one stage. I remember thinking at the time, if the jockeys don't care about the title, why should we?

Hanagan deserves it for his work-rate, if nothing else.

I would be a hughes fan but hats off to Hanagan who has given it socks since he rode that 4 timer at Doncaster early on.

Hughes has him now. 2 behind Hughes will be in front before Friday and then once Hanagan does ride more than a double on Friday Hughes will last it out on Saturday.
Hanangan riding like a man under pressure now

Hughes cannot ride on Friday. You cannot ride in more than 8 meetings per week.

Down, I believe it's nine a week.

Hughes had said by Thursday evening he would have ridden at the stipulated 9 meetings.

The week begins on a Saturday. That would have meant he would have had to put in a double shift on Tuesday where Kempton finished lateish.

He has done 6 this week to date.

He has a double shift Thursday. Now he can ride at either Southwell or Wolverhampton on Friday.

And of course he will be at Donny on Saturday now too.

Hanagan I see has a double shift of rides on Friday
