i was thinking about going to this but got the shock of my life when i saw the ticket prices !! WTF ..
for gods sakes dont they understand we are in recession, who on earth can afford this..
these prices are easily the most expensive tickets from all the other qualifiers going on around europe on that day..
i understand the FAI need to pay for the new stadium but this is nothing short of extortion..

That €90 is for the premium section I believe. For the fans who go to all the matches the price is €50.

the atmosphere is so important at international games , with the fai pricing that just might be affected . they have to drop prices , people no matter how much they love their country will find it hard to find the cash for these games .

Its not great value but the Two game package is €90 for Russia and Norway, has there been a mix up over the prices the two games for €90 in either North and South Lower, South Upper, East Upper and West Upper.

Bardo - you really have not looked too hard. www.fai.ie It states in plain English that is is 90 for a two match package - Russia and Norway.

confusiing coz ticketmaster prices it 95 euros if you buy a single premium ticket for the russia game.. which is what i was initially looking at

Sad thing for me is if I was paid 90 euro I wouldn't bother my arse going; I gave up years ago, its too f*king boring most of the time, f*ck all happens, 0-0 written all over it. Soccer is better on the telly generally.
Apart from all of that, it's just indicitive of what institutions, organisations, corporates, our government etc think of the Irish people in general - they'll pay way over the odds for any aul' shyte. And do you know what? We do. We will be forced to continue until we stop paying. Can you imagine the uproar in Glasgow (probably the best comparison geographically and economically), in fact I'm pretty sure NO-ONE on this PLANET pays those figures to see qualifier matches. I'd be keen to know - basic seats in the stand 90 euro!! If we keep going, we'll keep,paying, simple as. |

All the prices for the top sporting events in Ireland are way too dear given the current economic climate . My ( premium level ) seat at Croke Park 10 days ago cost 70 euros ( although there were 2 matches if you include the minors ) , but I reckon 50 euros should be the price , particularly given that few of those providing the entertainment were taking home much in the way of readies . People paid more than that if unable to get tickets through normal channels .
Some of the 6 nations rugby matches are up to 120 euros for a premium seat I believe , 50 euros too dear even allowing for the fact that the players are professionals . Hard for me to put a value on paying to see Ireland play soccer , but it certainly would not be 100 euros , even if they threw in another match ( which presumably few might go to see , I am guessing on that one ) . Like the bail out spivs and bankers , the country needs to pay attention to what Kevin Prendergast said today in an interview on ATR -- viz "people will have to work harder and accept less" . He was speaking about the racing industry , but if the cap fits the whole country should wear it . Unfortunately the ethos which has pervaded life in Ireland over last 10-15 years is to overpay ourselves . Same for sporting activities . |

Most people would think nothing of spending 50 quid on a night out in Dublin at a minimum. Concerts are far more expensive. I dont go but i did read that Arcade Fire was close to 100euro for their gig in the O2. I imagine dross like Electric Picnic or Oxyegen costs a few hundred quid. If you are a true supporter of your club or country at whatever sport you follow you will go regardless of the price, how the team are doing, who they are playing as long as your finances are not particularly tight. I dont think the Irish soccer team would miss the likes of wallflower or Roger above too much by the sound of things.

I thought the tickets were priced at 50 and 75 euro, to be fair even for one match thats too expensive. I'd pay the 50 for the Russia game but won't pay the extra for the Norway game as i hate friendlies. From what i seen of the FAI of late they are living on cloud coo koo land.

With the exception of the odd game against the likes of Samoa/Tonga/Fiji, there is no such thing as a friendly in rugby. Unlike soccer, the sport doesn't have a perpetual number of qualifiers to inflate the fixture list. I'm not going to get into an argument over the prices the IRFU charges because they are undoubtedly extortionate, but they do at least weight their prices depedning on the fixture. €40 to watch a friendly against Norway is not good value if you can watch a qualifier against Russia for €50.

If you have no interest in going then why you feel the need to comment on the price structure or the ability of the team for that matter. I'm sure if they do qualify for Euro 2012 you probably won't be bothered then either. I don't care for rugby but it doesn't mean I get hung up what they charge for games. Slagging of the FAI is a national pastime. Perhaps peoples energies would be better served supporting the team.
