Hacketts are great Laugh remember about 5 years ago on their football docket they had Deportivo down to play on the sunday, they actually played on saturday and won, we noticed this bet them on the sunday and went down on monday morning and got paid in full Laugh happy days.

There was another one too, they had Palermo v Milan on their screens for the night but the match had already been played and Palermo won 3-0, obviously we bet Palermo but some idiots got greedy and start putting stupid sums of money on the 3-0 scoreline and they realised and we didn't get paid out.

Laugh good old Hacketts

Hardly something to boast about, satellite.
Report arthurspooner August 28, 2010 4:22 PM BST
anyone who gets one over on a bookie should be able to boast about it.

If they offered the punter €12k as reported in the article, he should have taken it.

He might end up with fk all.
Report mitch leary August 28, 2010 5:59 PM BST
satellite flight the cheat.
that will come back on you if it hasnt already.

The article failed to mention.

1. What limit is stated in the Hackett rules (if at all)
2, If the said punter had placed this bet before.

If the punter regularly done an Irish placepot and it was accepted and no limit is on the rules, he should be paid imo.

Powers actively promote this bet, and hacketts pretty much do whatever Powers do, so hiding behind the fact they don't accept the bet does not wash with me. The Alphameric tills they use set up to process Irish placepots and since they went 6 races all shops I know off have accepted them

looks like pure old fashioned knocking to me
Report lustrumm August 28, 2010 7:06 PM BST
that would be Hacketts form to knock. Jeez I'd say the punter will have some trouble getting a manager on the phone. I am 3 years waiting to speak to a manager and I'd say a court date will be set before one of them picks up the phone to me.
In the guys favour is that this is the wrong time of the year to be messing punters around with licence renewal around the corner
Report squigs August 29, 2010 3:45 AM BST
In fairness the punter in question has opposed ladbrokes license previously over something similar and he got paid almost immediatly he is a dificult chap at the best of times I will say no more.

Hacketts stated limit is 10k and they say they won't take placepot bets on certain Irish meetings yet they always do.

Squigs i see home alone again tonight after the night club Laugh
Report Kerrygold August 29, 2010 7:30 AM BST
Hacketts have taken plenty of these bets in the past - nothing said - now when one clicks - well we have to check our rules - hacketts come across as shot takers
Report squigs August 29, 2010 8:08 AM BST
spot on rocks missus out of town for weekend don't have either the conscience or the ability it seems to play away :)

The bookies are entitled to their limits its just that Hacketts limit is so low for a large independant.

Iadbrokes are the only betting company in ireland who are licensed to take irish placepot bets (apart of course from the tote) their bets go straight into the pool
Report layprofessional August 29, 2010 11:22 AM BST
please correct me if this has changed but last year i went to fill out placepot docket in ladbrokes shop and no place to put fav on docket

Report squigs August 29, 2010 12:19 PM BST
Ladbrokes used to have no where to put fav on docket but that has been rectified now on the dockets.

I can't see how you can stop a firm taking an out of pool placepot if they want, if this is the case would you need a "big brother" license to take a bet on that show?

As I said earlier, most firms will willingly lay this bet "out of the pool", and if Hacketts have been accepting them for a period of time, they shouldn't be allowed to hide behind the license argument.

Surprised BF didn't offer to pay him. Was an obviously play as aside from Lads they are the only licenced operator who can accept irish pp's. Also - powers couldn't do it. If they could, they almost certainly would have IMO.
Report squigs August 29, 2010 5:19 PM BST
Powers could pay it they have a 50k limit. The punter in question isn't someone has cheesed off some of the bookies before by opposing the licence of certain bookmakers which he will do so with this Hacketts branch as well.

He will be paid in full soon enough hopefully.
Report da fallon factor August 29, 2010 8:00 PM BST

Interesting that
hacketts are trying to say that such placepot bets were illegal. I for one will be looking for refunds on all my losing placepot bets with them
Report zilzal1 August 29, 2010 11:52 PM BST
Ladbrokes tried this in 1988 when a winner abroad paid astonomical on the tote, they then said that they didnt accept tote bets abroad, only at they're on sp, i pointed out that punters should ask every branch manager to drag out the slips from Steerbeek and Enghien that winter and void em............
Report Win only - Sp only August 30, 2010 12:19 PM BST
Fair shout - re voiding. Anyone who has had a losing placepot in Ireland with Hacketts should be refunded every cent.
Report soapp August 30, 2010 8:06 PM BST
Hear hear Win only.

That licence imo should NOT be renewed for that shop when the time comes around.
Report mr_sykes August 30, 2010 8:54 PM BST
interesting story, can someone tell me what its about or where I can read up on it??
Report squigs August 30, 2010 10:35 PM BST
They haven't voided it all they have settled the bet to their limits which is visable on their rules their limit is low but by betting to their rules bookies except Ladbrokes whose stuff is done via tote. All bookies have limits which vary.

He wouldn't get paid in full by Boyles if he had done the placepot there and they are the 3rd biggest retail bookie in the country they have a 25k limit. In betting with Hacketts you accept their rules and the rules detail these limits.

We have a few tote employees on here surely is the way forward for all is to have tote bets done as ladbrokes have it have all betting shop placepots, jackpots, scoop 6 etc sent through to a central tote server with the bookies take their 10% commission and tote pools boosted by off course placepots and jackpots?
Report Temlett August 30, 2010 11:17 PM BST
Do the limits in the shop not state that they apply to UK placepots?

As far as I am aware there was no reference in the limits to Irish placepots.
Report soapp August 31, 2010 6:32 PM BST
squigs, if you are right abot their low limits I take back what I said earlier.
This man from what I heard is an ex bookie and a semi pro punter.
He was trying to get in under the radar and NO WAY  should he get more than the limit in the RULES. He is just a cute H. Surley he should have played the game in Powers's where no doubt the limits are higher.
