Buy last Saturday's Irish Field. Dave Keena did a stable tour of the Oxx horses. He has a lot of nice 2 yr olds he said which are just waiting for a bit of nice ground.

Just don't think he has the horses

Shocking stuff so far from John Oxx. Really awful stuff. Hope it gets better but this season must have been one of his worst

Front page quoted headline from Mr Oxx on The Irish Field: "There are a few nice horses among them, but it is just one of those years that you have to get through".

Doesn't sound to optimistic for the rest of the season!

shows you the merry go round of the racing world.. had sea the stars last year and doesnt have a genuine group 1 horse this year....

but he does hit form in september and october...

Since the beginning of 2006 Oxx has turned out 190 runners in the month of September - 43 of them won their races at 22.6% and generated 35.4 points of profit for punters when backed to level stakes.

Runners in the month of October over the same period amount to 202 - and these have produced 40 winners at 19.8% and to level stakes have produced a 28.8 point reward for backers.

Bring back Mickey Joe Cry

Oxx's horses have been in poor form this year but the retirement of Mick Kinane is also playing a big part in his ordinary results. Most big trainers have used the services of top jockeys when they have been at the peak of their powers,a bit like Ger Lyons being unable to use Murtagh this year, what happens?,he's stuck with Latham and suddenly the winners dry up.Oxx on the other hand has a second tier jockey as his stable jockey and his winner ratio is suffering as a consequence.
Report GANT007 August 24, 2010 12:32 PM BST
Mick still rides out 3 mornings a week at currabeg.
Report jimeen August 24, 2010 12:40 PM BST
Thats not a whole lot of use when it comes to the racetrack where it counts.Berry isnt a bad jockey, far from it in fact, but he is far and away the weakest of the jockeys at the big Irish flat stables, and i'd imagine Oxx and the Aga Khan are well aware of that also.
Report punchestown August 24, 2010 12:43 PM BST
There is simply no way Frank Berry is or ever will be in Kinane's league but it's a tad harsh on the lad to blame him for the lack of stable form.
Report GANT007 August 24, 2010 12:48 PM BST
If the yard was firing Fran would do the job........easy to knock a jockey when the yard is out of form.
Report jimeen August 24, 2010 12:53 PM BST
Punchestown- Im not blaming him entirely for the lack of stable form i.e winners,i'm just saying that he is a factor, its a bit like saying that if Seamie Heffernan was stable jockey at Ballydoyle,or maybe Pat Shanahan at Rosewell, then obviously their respective stable form would suffer, its not that they wouldnt have winners, but they wouldnt have as many.
Report punchestown August 24, 2010 12:59 PM BST
Jimeen,I wasn't accusing you of blaming Berry for the dip in form, there's 2 separate things going on in this thread, lack of stable form & prowess(or lack of) Berry,I'm to blame for part 2 for bringing Mickey Joe into it Laugh
Report Dan Chipowski August 24, 2010 1:24 PM BST
Berry is most certainly a factor, he's been very in and out this year.
Report GANT007 August 24, 2010 1:29 PM BST
Out of interest lads.......Who do you think would be the man for the job.
Report neill d August 24, 2010 2:32 PM BST
Stable jockey issue is a red herring, well arazan run this season?
Report soapp August 24, 2010 6:07 PM BST
Neil, he said Arazan was waiting for an ease in the ground. He is going ok on the gallops.

A lot of ye are very hard on Fran. His stable is going badly so he is relying on a lot of outside rides and is still close to the top of the table. Think about it. If he was stable jockey to Weld, Bolger or O'Brien he would be in an unassailable lead now imo.
Report Tiswallaceno7 August 24, 2010 6:30 PM BST
Can't blame Fran. The stable horses have been awful.
