Terrible way for his career to end!

Don't know why but I thought to myself during the race that wouldn't it be terrible if anything happened to this poor horse.

He was probably going to win as well!!

Shay Barry and Alain Cawley were taken to Tralee Hospital following heavy falls at Killarney this evening.

Barry is undergoing x-rays for a suspected fracture of his pelvis while Cawley has dislocated his shoulder.

Shay Barry suffered his injury when his mount Hairy Molly took a fatal fall at the final fence in the Handicap Chase while Alain Cawley was injured when his mount Inagh Valley fell four fences from home in the Beginners Chase.

Was very sad to see this.

Started following the horse after an old friend of mine had backed it for the Bnmper and became a real favourite, despite the fact that it failed to hit the heights again and never won me anything.  Backed it numerous times despite them trying it on too soft ground, too long a trip; natch, he was pretty versatile.
Didn't back him the last day when he won (was out and forgot he was running!) but was back on him today  SadSad

Here's to Hairy Molly; a good old horse, he was.

Very sad for connections of Hairy Molly.

Cost me a fair amount at the time by beating off Pressgang in that bumper at Chelt. Pressgang also suffered a fatal fall at the beginning of last year if memory serves. Cruel game at times.

It was a horrible fall. Tough on connections .

Dont know if anyone has the facts but my perception is that Killarney seems to be as bad as it gets for this.

Shay had been having bis best run for years too.

Like yourself grade1 - never seen more fatalities per fall like killarney over the past few days - i know it has a bit of a reputation, but i found myself wincing a couple of times every race. shocking stuff overall - and more of it today.

An old Fav,pity as she seemed to be coming back, off topic but related,I see the 2nd last on the old course @ Cheltenham is to be moved into the straight from this season.
Report mitch leary August 20, 2010 6:00 PM BST
something has to be done about this track. too many horses careers ended through injury or death. 6 or 7 killed on one day last year. at least 4 this week.
Report soapp August 20, 2010 6:04 PM BST
Worse than Kilbeggan per se as Kilbeggan is all NH.

I was at Kilbeggan to see his last victory a fortnight ago. I had £2 sterling at 12/1 (BF) to pay for a pint or two down there.

RIP

Wasn't there a spate of these last summer aswell at Killarney, Pity about the horse, a few friends of mine backed him at Cheltenham, they were not big into the horses, we were just after finishing our mocks for the leaving, He paid for a right piss up that night. They'll be sad when they hear this.

Shay Barry, who received a heavy fall from Hairy Molly's fatal final fence exit at Killarney on Thursday, was confirmed to have fractured his pelvis, despite having being sent home from Tralee hospital with severe pain, several hours after the heavy fall.ShockedShocked

Barry was sent home from the hospital at 2am on Friday morning despite complaining of severe pain in his lower abdomen. However, having sought a second opinion, a fracture of his pelvis was confirmed.
