why is it that they ( GAA ) couldnt have built it properly fisrt time around..

it just looks so dumb to have a great stadium that its only completed on 3 sides... hill 16  really looks like an eyesore..it just looks awful.. especially when viewed from the canal end.. its just ugly and out of place

they way GAA folk go on and on about croker being the best stadium in the world is hilarious...

i can think of loads of stadia that beat it.. twickenham , wembley, stade de france, nou camp, san siro etc etc..

and now the FAI and IRFU have done pretty much exactly the same thing with the aviva which in essence is also only 3 sides complete...

why does irish sport always seem to do everything embarrasingly arseways..

they should have built an 80,000 all seater outside dublin, not in the center of town with all those residents kicking up a fuss..

maybe in another 100 years we will finally get it right..
Pause Switch to Standard View croke park and the new aviva look...

Embarrassing is a tough one.

Hill 16 is horrible, I agree a complete eyesore. If they wanted a hill, why not wrap it right round and just leave a terrace in there instead of seats.

hill 16 panders to an urban myth, should be integrated into the stadium structure

Can't agree with this at all at all. The Aviva is finished and it basically reminds the players what they are playing for by letting them see the whole City more or less, also lets the sunlight into the the local community gardens, i think it is a feature that gets people talking. Art Neovau i beleive it's called, my cousin was in South America and was staying at a hotel with a bunch of stadium designing guys and they said straight away that they loved this feature when they heard he was from Dublin.

Croker will be closed soon according to last Saturday's indo, not sure if that is right or wrong buit i think the Indo is a paper of record. Cry

Have to totally agree with the first post. Would agree with morrga also, Hill16 is an eyesore, GAA should have wrapped the whole thing round and left a terrace if it was so wished. The GAA probably don't care about aesthetics as they have a 82,000 capacity and a standing area to keep everyone happy.
The Aviva as a Stadium is, despite all the hype, quite disappointing. It does look great from the outside so when you go inside and your eye is drawn towards the north end it is underwhelming and a big let down. That end actually does look pathetic and is embarrassing, its more Carlisle Grounds than Nou Camp. Rocketfingers did say one sensible thing, it is a feature that gets people talking but 100% of this talk is a negative response towards it.
It is a great chance missed by the FAI and IRFU to build a truly world class stadium. A 65,000 capacity should have been their absolute mininmum and when planning restrictions made this impossible they should have moved to a green field 80,000 plus site.
Its a massive letdown because when will the chance come again to build a truly world class stadium for internationally played sport in this country? probably not in the next 30 years at least. You can be sure that in this time the circumstances will arrive where its a case of going back on our knees begging to the GAA again and that really is a shame.

Might be totally wrong on this but was hill 16 left open for natural light to get on the pitch. They don't seem to have the ground problems that a lot of big stadiums have.Again might be totally wrong.

I dont know if that was the reason dubai (aren't they constrained anyway by the railway line hard at the back of the Hill?) but it seems to work very well - much rather see the place getting good light and circulation of air than completing the bowl for the sake of it. Murrayfield an example of a full bowl whose pitch now suffers from bad light issues. The Hill is not exactly small anyway.

the aviva is a different matter. I know they had planning issues but the Havelock Sq end still looks plain daft shame as it takes away form a nice stadium.

Wayside it would be great if the FAI and IRFU, i think Croker really lacks an International feel to go hand in hand with it's domestic feel the stadia has. It's missing something and i think that is why the GAA must step  up to the mark and try and finish Croker and hopefully entice the big pay days we got of the FAI and the IRFU back. As one high ranking GAA official said to me "Ireland v Wales, Germany, Italy and France and Ireland v France and England in the Rugby show cased to the whole of the world what Croker is like  we could never do that with gaelic football" and i said "sure that only we 3 sides complete" we both laughed our heads off wayside Laugh

Croke Park won't see an international game for a long time.......The IRFU will jack up the ticket prices to make up the 30000 less supporters. Leinsters 2 big games coming up should fill the aviva and selected soccer internationals will fill it.
Report Rocketfingers August 18, 2010 1:48 PM BST
You seriously think Leinster will fill the Aviva, impressive if they do did not think they had that much support Gant !
Report GANT007 August 18, 2010 1:54 PM BST
Leinster v Munster..........will sell out..2nd October.
Leinster v Clermont ...18th December......will get a huge crowd.

Only playing 2 games there.

Ah Gant you forgot to mention there was two Irish teams for one of the matches, Ya but i think 30k for the second they would do well.
