as most of you on here know i'm not the greatest fan of the gaa , but this man sticks in my mind from the late 70s i think it was , i remember watching this man play on numerous occasions and been enthralled . to clarify this statement i can say i only know the name of one dublin player brogan ,so for this man to have stayed in my mind over such time is i think a compliment  not to  only his talent but to his charisa , may he rest in peace.

Very sad loss. Probably past his best in 1980 when Roscommon lost out, for the want of a feetaker, to the greatest team of all time who were probably then at their best. One of the top players in the country for over a decade. Made it to the top in sport and professional life. Any time he ever told a story about himself in an interview it was a self deprecating one.A perfect gentleman. Never heard anyone say a bad word about him. RIP

the man was a superb footballer, stylish and a great point taker, too late to correct the misspelling of his name

As already mentioned, never heard anyone say a bad word about the man (which is rare for a man so successful in a number of fields).

A true gentleman of the old school and a man that any young footballer or young soldier should aspire too.

RIP.

I dont know anything about Dermot Earley senior, but quite obviously its a particularly sad time for his family and close friends.A talented footballer from an unfashionable county, may he rest in peace. It is a pity that the thread was started by someone with the iq of a pig, first of all being unable to spell his name, also unable to spell charisma, and then coming out with some bullshiite story about being unable to remember any Dublin footballer of the 70's except somebody called Brogan. This will be all blamed on dyslexia again i suppose, although i for one think the workrider may well have a different condition and thats stupidia.

Appears to be your knowledge on most topics.

Have to say the original post from Workrider seems genuine enough, can't see the need for a post to pay tribute to someone to develop into a slagging match.

The workrider is using a mans untimely demise as a method of expressing a point that has been made so many times before by himself, and that is that he doesnt like GAA.To say that the only Dublin player he remembers from that era was  Bernard Brogan is imbecilic. Most people with the slightest interest in sport will surely have heard of Keaveney,Cullen and Mullins just to name 3 from that side.

jimeen , i was speaking of the present team when i said i knew no one but brogan , but you only want to impress people with your alleged knowledge , which you obviously need to impart on a regular basis just in case we might forget how clever you are , beware the egoic mind my friend .i apoligse to any one i offend by my spelling of dermot earley's name .i think most people knew who i ment .once again jimeen you show how bitter you are .its people like you who cause the devide between soccer and the gaa with your constant sniping , i know i'm not as pure as the driven snow  but  when i express my sadness at the passing of a great gaa player and a brilliant general as well ,  i have to listen to a bigoted clown like you try and upstage something , just so you can defend your stance . as i said earlier beware the egoic mind .may the man who gave me pleasure as a footballer , rest in peace .

but surely wonky, if he gave you that much pleasure, you can surely express your grief more by spelling his name correctly. to not do so is, imo, somewhat disrespectful.

shytester and jimeen , i refuse to let this thread become a slagging match , at least have some respect for the dead .end of story.

Will ya get out of here workrider please, you now are saying you know Brogan from the present team, yet there are 2 Brogan's on this one,so you have heard of one but not the other, isnt that what you are saying?.This divide between GAA and soccer that you mention,i like to watch both games, yet i dont have any narrow minded affinity to either. It has nothing to do with being bitter about anything, bitter about what ?.Basically  your original post can be summed up as your good self feigning sorrow for the untimely death of a GAA legend that you never met in your life, and then included later is the reference to the fact that you only know the name of one Dublin footballer, such is your apparent lack of interest in the sport.I would argue that if that is the case the only reason it may be true is that your brain is so miniscule that it can only store the name of one player from any given team at the one time.Good day to you now workrider.
