I believe it was on prime time. BTW his softly softly approach to prisoner visits led to vast amounts of illicit drugs being smuggled into Mountoy. This act of omission resulted in thousands of young men leaving jail with a chronic drug addicition having entered  drug free.

A: it's not a problem unique to Mountjoy
B: a serious amount of drugs comes over the walls, the Gardai are always arresting people near the prison

It's both lazy and stupid to suggest the blame lies at the door of John Lonergan.

John Lonergan is certainly to blame. Ask any prison officer. You are just ignorant.

Yeah because prison officers are totally correct and don't have any agenda whatsoever. Good thinking.

Also ignoring the proximity of Mountjoy to the general population and RECORDED incidents of prison officers smuggling drugs is what's ignorant, not suggesting John Lonergan may not be to blame for drugs in prison. Get clued in please.

No you don't know what you're on about. Honestly, suggesting there is nothing to Mountjoy being so close to the population
of the city and there aren't a lot of b ent prison officers is just sticking your fingers in your ears. I've given you proof
and you still do it. Join the real world.

Why didn't Lonergan do this years ago. He may have saved many lives. He was a complete tw@t.

New drug prevention measure at Mountjoy
Sunday, 22 August 2010 21:52
A new specialised net, costing €250,000 has been installed over the main yard at Mountjoy Prison to prevent drugs being thrown over the perimeter wall.

The Irish Prison Service says it has dramatically reduced the supply of illegal drugs into the prison and says further nets will be installed.

Residents on Glengarriff Parade, which backs onto the perimeter wall of the jail have been plagued for years by drug dealers climbing onto the roofs of their homes and throwing drugs packages into the prison.

AdvertisementThe new net over the prison yard is translucent, fire resistant, tough enough not to rip when heavy objects are thrown on to it and fine enough to catch even the smallest packages.

Twice a day Prison Officers collect what has been thrown in. Before the net was installed, larger slabs were been thrown over, but now even drugs put into in hollowed out egg shells are not getting through.

The nets have so far been installed in two prison yards - the remaining seven will be covered within two months.

Last year, gardai arrested 75 people in one day for throwing drugs into Mountjoy but Prison Authorities say they have now closed off one of the most effective methods drug dealers had for smuggling drugs into the country's biggest prison.
