Report The Icchantika June 16, 2010 6:14 PM BST
You see fit to comment on other people's supposed occupations and have had no problem sharing personal information on here in the past, so I thought it was a reasonable question. You have also made a comment above about 'bumming off the taxpayer'. Given the frequency of your posts and the nature of their content, I can only assume that you do not work. I also think that it is pretty reasonable to assume that your income is state sponsored, be that the dole or some sort of disability payment. I had considered that you may be earning some sort of pension, but, given your enthusiasm for Shamrock Rovers and the fact that you tell us that you are merely a grandfather and not a great grandfather, I can only assume that you have not yet reached retirement age.

Perhaps you could enlighten me in order to satisfy my curiosity?

What is ariel aid? Some kind of washing detergent bail out plan? Have Proctor and Gamble gone the way of the banks?

Don't patronise me workrider. I hate liars. You were never employed by the department, nor are you currently employed by anyone. You spend all day every day spouting your inane nonsense on here. You are either operating on a whole other intellectual plateau(which I doubt) or you are very, very stupid. I think of you as some sort of half human/half amoeba, sitting there in a shamrock Rovers jersey, brandishing a keyboard and wearing a stupid grin all the time.

Enjoy your grandkids while they are young, because once they utter their first words you will be dealing with your intellectual superiors.

Report Xerophyte June 16, 2010 11:06 PM BST
I've actually read four books of the said work in Greek when I had to. The poem is split into 24 books, one for each letter of the alphabet. So referring to it as a 'book' is a bit strange. And I don't see what you can say is strange about the sentences if you rely on a translation. But no doubt the wise one will lighten my darkness.

Report ricky butcher June 16, 2010 11:22 PM BST
Freeloader, maybe you can enlighten us as to the connection between the "unusual" aspect of the Iliad, by unusual you mean  it's unusual that a poem doesn't contain full stops which is not unusual, your dyslexia and whatever else you're talking about.

Are you really suggesting you've a superior intellect?
Report workrider June 16, 2010 11:34 PM BST
xerophyte , i have been slated on here over the years for my use of commas and full stops ,especially by teachers yet  here's  homer doing the very  same and none of these clowns notice .
Report workrider June 16, 2010 11:39 PM BST
ricky / shyester i hope when you go back to teaching in kindergarden you'll maybe look out for these kids and give them the help they need . instead of coming on here blabbering nonsence alnight long , you are payed too well imo and are not up to the job.
Report Xerophyte June 16, 2010 11:39 PM BST
You have to bear in mind that the works of Homer were not actually written at the time but were essentially oral compositions that were written down at a later stage. It is quite possible that at the time of composition there was not even a Greek alphabet. The earliest written Greek, about 700BC, had no breaks between the words and certainly no punctuation at all. It was only later copyists who split the works into books and inserted punctuation and accentuation. So Homer did not miss out any punctuation. In fact it is claimed he was blind!
Report workrider June 16, 2010 11:47 PM BST
exactly , thats what i was talking about , very few full stops if any . you would only notice this if you read the book / poem in book form . obviously i only read 150 pages of same but i did notice that . there again i'm sure after reading it so did ricky/shytester Silly

Yes, let's give teachers a kicking, not one of them has ever diagnosed dyslexia in this country.

Ever heard of language support in schools?

Anyway, any parent worth their salt should have as good a chance, if not better, of diagnosing it. Or do you leave all the education to the schools?

A load of rubbish. Don't assume your own situation holds everywhere.
