Anyone with even a remote interest in GAA would know this rule exists and has existed for a number of years now.
By:
That does not mean it is in any way right its a rule I just can't make sense of and never have been able to.

Shocking stuff, i think the GAA need to have a look at themselves.
Edit: Great comp on RTE's Sunday game, win a flight if you live in Australia ![]() |

It's a competition for people living in Ireland. You get to nominate somebody. Simple freerider.

Wow great comp ricky win a prize for someone else, should be a huge entry. I for one know loads of people living in Australia that are massive hurling fans

How many thousands of genuine hurling fans from Ireland would give their right nut to make it home from Oz for a big game and impress everyone. I'm sure there are tens of thousands of families who would love to bring their sons, daughters back for a bit and blag a ticket and a hotel in the process. Great comp from RTE, GAA and Etihad.

The Rule Daza and Ricky when will the rule be changed, i thought it was a disgrace the sunday game did not deal with this major issue. Squigs is right we all know as fans that this rule exists but that mean it right. What is the reasoning behind it? Because can you imagine how the Wexford players felt seeing Dublin bring on two new players for extra time esp after one of the Dublin players had been sent off for violent conduct.
By:
Go to bed Freerider. There's a whole week of doing nothing for you to deal with in the morning. GN folks.

Wow surprise to surprise, off to bed and for Ricky and not able to answer the question. Daza may answer but again i doubt it, too busy entering the Sunday game competition for tens of thousands of Aussie Hurling fans i bet he is.

same rule in every club game in the country, has been with years,im think its fair!
By:
Scooby i know the rule has been around but please explain to me how a player who assaults another player gets caught and gets sent off and his team are allowed to replace him in extra time just minutes later? Serious question
By:
at the end of 70 mins or 60 mins in a club game the game is over, extra time is a seperate game and the same player sent off cant come back on!
By:
I know the rule but if it's a new game though why are same scores kept the same ! Anyway regardless Scooby of that how is it fair that's what i am asking? It's not fair it's crazy rule imo.
By:
PMSL. Why are scores kept the same? Hahahahah...it's a draw you dumb &*@!. Good stuff freerider.
By:
im happy enough with it anyway rocket,if you had a game with 3 or 4 sent off extratime would be a farce, its fair cos both teams know the rules!
By:
Scooby cheers, but i still think it is crazy. Ricky, Scooby said it's a new game that is why i said that so need to try and twist it. I am just concerned that it's another rule that's not thought out rule and is destroying the game, Brolly said the same last week. Attendances are on the slide already in the GAA if they don't sit down and think about the rules we will end up with crowds like we had today at the games. People are fed up with all the rule changes and that is why Association football is the most played game on these Islands and both North and South.

Ha, that's almost, almost quite clever Freeloader. Well done.

Association football is the most played game?
maybe inside the pale but nowhere else...... hi boy have you tried to watch any of the world cup games ( best show on the planet apparently).... have watched snatches of it for 10 mins at a time and it is worse than watching a cctv of the speaking clock..... if this is a fishing thread you've caught me and well done but at one time today the cork/kerry game game was on one channel and slovenia vs somewhere else was on............ one was exciting and full of action and absorbing to watch.......... the other was akin to sitting in a nursing home listening to old people piss tier pants stuff...... the latter wasn't the gaa match. feel sorry for the soccer mugs on this forum that try to big up their sport........ yawn.... it's got boring now listening to you guys....... you say wotldwide audiences and sh1t like that............. but on 3rd week of sept the biggest game in the world will be taking place on jones' road as the figures for those attending live games on that weekend has shown for 4 of the past 5 years.............. not bad for an amateur sprt with it's own stadium that the great soccer and rugby public want to try to hi-jack at every available opportunity. as i said if this is a fishing thread - well done you got me if not...... what was the biggest attendance for a soccer game in ireland this year? :) I rest my case mo chara |
By:
6th paragraph should read .............
that for 4 of the past 5 years the biggest attendance at any live game in the world at hat weekend was in croke park at the all-ireland final........... not bad for an amateur sport eh......... |

Great post but please do not turn this into a GAA v Football but i totally agree with your post Francies fancies. It just about one crazy rules of the GAA that need to look at. I always go to the All-Ireland finals tickets are no problem to come by and love to have a few jars and watch a good game and meet the same old faces every year in Barry's Hotel. So many games are dull these days that defensive approach players not knowing how to pass to each other no one knowing if it is full time or extra time and today the new farce allowing a team to replace it's players after they were sent off. These people i meet each year won't around for ever you know !
I did not see the Cork v Kerry match today but i think the dross served up last week made a lot of GAA fans stay at home to watch the Slovenia v Algeria match which i heard was poor as well francies fancies, and this culminated in a lousy attendance for the sports two best team today. I mean there is something wrong when hardcore GAA fans want to stay at home to watch a team Ireland beat 3-0 only a few weeks ago, is the magic of the world cup that great? Instead of watching the two best teams in the sport play. Can you imagine if the national team were playing in the world cup what the attendances today would have been !!!I really think the GAA need to do two things have a look at their rules, sorting out how you pass the ball, define what a tackle is, not allow the extra time rule to continue as it is, where teams are allowed to replace players that have been sent off esp ones that have been sent off for violent conduct. Please rule out the change from 15 to 13 players once and for all next it will be changing it down to 11 players. Also act on what we seen last weekend when the ref manufactured a draw and lastly finish Croke park stadium. We have the new modern Aviva now it looks miles ahead because it is finished, Croker has great history but only 3 finished sides, also some of the viewing from the stands is poorish and the sight lines need re-examined an maybe the old lady needs a facelift. Oh and announce to the players the TV companies what games can go into extra time or not. Finally 82,286 spectators at Croke Park but we need to get these people to come to more games than one a year and that includes me as well. If you build it they will come as the saying goes Francies fancies or finish it in this case, if the GAA does not acts it will fall further behind football/soccer in this country. |

It took Freeloader an hour to write that lump of transparent gibberish. Go to bed man. That was an hour you'll never get back.

I got it ff, i know what you mean mate, i don't think that's true at all with Barce v Seviila from a couple of years back, there was some F1 GP that hammered them as well. Actually not sure if you know this but 105k turned out see Dallas in the NFL last year. Not bad for city of 1.4 million when you compare it to Dublin and today crowd , sorry mate off to bed this is killing me, nice chatting you, lets hope the GAA act and we can get more people to attend regularly.![]() |

Learn to read, he said "THAT WEEKEND". Stop embarrassing yourself at every opportunity.

What do you mean, i was talking about events occurring during the weekend of the All Ireland final, in terms of TV audience an TV All Ireland final would not be in the top 100 sporting events of that weekend, this needs to change we need to get international credibility. Anyway please Ricky leave this thread. It saddens me how you masquerade as a GAA fan while not dealing with the real issues at hand and our decline in crowds, one1 good crowd a year in the old lady is sad to see at this stage.
By:
LOL. Good stuff. I think we should be happy having the 3rd largest stadium in Europe and domestic TV viewing figures the envy of every other sport. I heard more people watch the All-Ireland final than attend the LOI in 50 years. What a great stat. I'm going to sleep soundly knowing that. Racing is over so GN Freeloader.

watch the All-Ireland on a single day, that is.

Ricky just leave before i embarrass you by asking you for links to back up your glue fueled claims ! you know nothing about either sport.

Another thread hijacked, this place should be renamed the Badmouth Irish sports forum
I would take many a friend who come over from either the UK or Australia to Croke Park. If you told an English person that even 20,000 would come to watch an a non professional game they would be shocked to bring them to an 80,000 which does get filled to near capacity over the summer just blows their mind. Its hardly a shocking attendance but one I would put more down to the weather then anything else for both the games. I remember them only getting 55,000 or so for the Westmeath game last year at this same stage so not a huge fall. I attend as much sport as possible both GAA and LOI but wouldn't take a tourist to see a game in Tallaght,Dalymount or Richmond by any means. |

Ricky we all go to the finals, as i said i meet the same people in Barry's Hotel every year. It's the run of the mill games that the real issue. Just over 20k at the Cork v Kerry replay and these two are our sports two best teams
, Laois, Meath, Wexford and Dublin between them had 49k despite these areas having a population of well over half the country. Dublin may only have a few championship games a year the stadium should be full every time. I find the whole thing quite depressing what would have happened if our national team were playing in the world cup. The biggest sporting event ever held in Ireland will take place in the Aviva next season in terms of everything bar the actual attendance and that will be the uefa cup final. I hope health and safety never make us finish Croker as having a big stadium is the only thing we seem to have mate ![]() |
