let me be straight up with you- im not a fan of rural pursuits - have no time for lamping troutickling or agriball. however dublins agriball coach is a clown & has brought great shame on our city- i fear he will do it agai this year - time he wet back to his **** business & dublin got a proper manager

Gilroy tried one last year with Pillars players last year, which was fair enough, but he realised he had to rebuild, he's done it this year. He had an open day for senior players in Innisfails last October to take a look at players in the county that may have been over looked. He's used 34 different players in the league. The Dubs beat Kerry, Derry, Mayo, Monaghan and Tyrone in the league. You say you have no time for rural sports, perhaps you mean the Irish national sport, it shows, you Know nothing about GAA, The Dubs or Pat Gilroy.

the person who started this thread is obviously a westbrit...... yeah that game that has on average one score per game and is so technical is much better. The game where (wo)men roll about on the floor like pansies because they tripped over a blade of grass; or where supporters want the opposition to kick the ball out, so one of their players can get treatment for for a splint end in their new hairstyle ---- yeah that game is so great to watch compared to our national sport ----- NOT...

Tubbsy says Gilroy has brought great shame on his city... Tubbsy why? Please elaborate. The guy has an All Ireland medal sitting next to an All Ireland Club medal on his mantelpiece and now he juggles being the Dublin manager with being the Managing Director of a hugely successful business. From your post you could do neither, you know nothing about GAA and from you spelling you arent fit to be a secretary never mind an MD.

I think Tubbsy is right. I know Gilroy and I feel he is bringing his influence as an MD to put pressure on the Dublin GAA hence no one is willing to say the Emperor has no clothes
I think Dublin is in a worse state now than at any stage in my living memory. I dont rate the man at all. This is a relatively open year in the Football with a Cork team that does not know how to win an All Ireland favourites yet I would not have Dublin on my mind as being any where near in a position to win it. What will happe next is that Meath will get going again and they wont even be top dogs in Leinster shortly. That will Be Gilroy's legacy imo |

Let's see what happens during this year's Championship. One good thing Gilroy has done is to delve deeper into football looking for players.

Gilroy seems to have a blind spot about Mark Vaughan - nothing new there, great forwards always messed up by the Dubs, remeber Joe McNally, Ciaran Duff and Barney Rock none of whom were even on the bench against Donegal in '92 - and his midfield pairing against Kerry was crazy and Griffin should have been glued to the Gooch.
But still . . the Brogans are grafting now, tackling, covering back and even better forwards than before, remember too the Kilmacud lads were knackered last year after the club All Ireland . . think too that if Dublin meet Kerry this year it will be roles reversed from last time, very different expectations in both counties. One time people thought Leinster would never beat Munster in rugby, different story now. Remember too Gilroy is lucky, unlike Gerry McCaul or Pillar. Could yet be an interesting summer on the Hill |

bit harsh? fairer to say a cork team that does not know how to beat kerry in croke park. Cork have only been beaten by 1 team in the last 5 years. many of these players have won all-irelands at U-21 and some at minor so they know how to win an all-ireland, and are good enough to, but some mental block remains when they meet kerry in croke park. they have beaten them numerous times in killarney and P Ui C. |

Gilroy has said himself that supporters should not expect dublin to deliver an all ireland this year if i was playing for him i wouldnt be too happy hearing that unless hes just saying that to the press, wrong man for the job imo from the start, having open trails is a joke, players should be looked at playing club not just what they do in a few trails, team players can pass to there own an all that jazz but il still support them no matter what.

La Stelle I am from Cork and I do not like saying it. cork have to be 10 points the best team in Ireland to win the Football any year.
in fact if it was not for tompkins moving to cork we would never again have won it after 73. Cork have been the best team in football for 3 years now and this is the last chance. I wont back them at any price this year dwspite it appearing they have everything in their favour. As for Gilroy's statement re dont expect us to win anything this year, while he may argue it is to take pressure off his players, I would argue it is to deflect from him that he is a poor manager. There is no pressure on tghe players this year, everyone knows dublin are useless and wil lbe lucky to get to the last 8 |

Tony Fenton . . a more recent case of Dublin not appreciating classy forwards was in that monsoon ridden quarter final loss to Tyrone two years back, the Brogans and Vaughan were, by some way, the best attackers the Dubs had yet only one started.
Bernard came on to replace the injured Alan and Vaughan was brought on much too late. Would any other county play their ace cards like this? Not sure about Vaughan soloing but I remember the crucial two late points he nailed Meath with a few years back, and some incredible scoring - including some unbelievable sideline kicks - that dethroned the then All Ireland Club Champions St Vincents and sent Kilmacud on their way to the same title. Shouldn't he at least be in the squad? All that said Gilroy is playing a blinder so far this year and Dublin are big contenders for Sam. Griffin and Davoren big losses for sure, but Kerry have lost five and Tyrone seem in some state of confusion - is the hunger still there? Cork worthy favourites but Dublin the value bet. |
