RIP, A Gentleman.
One of my earliest racing memories/experiences was watching some post racing gallops from the balcony of a corporate box in Fairyhouse at the 2 day december meeting in 97. There were many of his owners around and he was content to sit and watch a non event and chew the cud and chat racing with a relative nipper. |

RIP.It was marvellous to see him go out with Puyol in the MCR.
I remember in the 8O's Ireland would be lucky some years to get only one winner. And John Mulhern had a marvellous stayer that kept the Irish going then. Flashing Steel was a great winner of the irish national under top weight. He had unique colours. The famous question mark. We will miss him with his trade mark cigar. Stephen McCarthy was brilliant at keeping the yard going in his absence. He had his health worries to deal with too. Sympathies to Eimear his wife. |

thats sad news, this man was well able to turn out the winners. Miltonfield and any horse he ever ran at Leopardstown was always trying and there abouts.

Master Swordsman was a fav of mine... beat Carvills hill at Fairyhouse

RIP. Puyol did me a good turn in the Pierse.

Soapp, Galmoy was the stayer. Others were Wolf of Badenoch and his best flat horse would probably have been Osterhase...
Unfortunately those cigars probably didn't do much for his health. |

The taxman probably didnt do a whole lot either over the years.

RIP. He was one of the old school and Cheltenham was very dear to him so its sad that he died this week.Think it was the late Frank Smyth who wrote a piece about his Cheltenham exploits many years ago. I recall his Friendly Alliance winning there in the early 80's and of course Galmoy. Himself and Mr Timmy Jones were some team!!

miltonfield another stalwart for the yard.

He also landed a nice touch at the Galway Festival last year with Few Are Chosen who subsequently won off a mark 19lbs higher a month later at the September meeting.

You could also lay it back on betfair for one half of the stake and have a free bet to nothing.

Expand please as I aint got the post.

Quite extensive article but best to say a lot of negative vibes for my liking.

By:
Fair enough. Cheers.

Sweetman's article is well balanced imo and a welcome retreat from the inappropriate '' canonisation'' obituaries so prevalent nowadays
|
|
By:
A lot of what was written today was previously well documented and to me it was not appropiate to bring it to the fore today as his family prepare to bury him on Thursday.
|
|
By:
Any chance of posting the article Stellar? Sweetman is not one of the fawning sycophants, fair play to him...
|
|

I would also like to read this article if anyone has a link?

I find it strange that The Taoiseach and The President of Ireland were officially represented at the funeral of a gentleman who had a problem with paying his correct taxs and was involved with the offshore Ansbacher scandal. I would not have a problem if they were there in a personal capacity but spending taxpayers money on this is typical of the hypocrisy of the rulers of Ireland in ignoring tax evasion. |
