ta lads , i have to admit i dont trust charles byrnes he could hgave been spoofing even though the timing of his so called setback did happen at a inoppurtune moment , kicking king had a much earlier setback and had time to recover, something tells me binocular is a e/w bet and if the ground is really good starluck will go well

I think the e/w bet is sizing europe , the atr show last night suggested the stable is a bit iffy , what do people think of that?

im posting this everywhere so sorry for the repetition, but i know for a factthat jp is backing lami and not garde.make of that what you will.

ccb is his banker of the day, but the fact he is backing lami seems more signficant tome cos i can see people lumping on garde even though the owner is on lami

Report Fortune March 16, 2010 12:56 PM GMT
Why do you think he was brought wide??!! Had he got in traffic and fallen they'd be on here saying what a poor ride it was not keeping him wide!! Horse given every chance, just not good enough.
Report ACE KICKER March 16, 2010 12:58 PM GMT
how can you say he was not good enough, hung wide the whole way round at the back of the field, at the second hurdle the horse nearly took of on him, then he had to take a pull, he basically dissapointed the horse and i didnt bet in the race.
Report Allez March 16, 2010 12:59 PM GMT
He doesn't jump fluently enough to track the pace up close, would be shuffled back at every hurdle.

Poor Brian, gonna get slaughtered for doing nothing wrong, and if he won would have got no praise as was on a aeroplane.

If Dunguib was to meet Meonrah in a race with a smaller field he'd beat him
Report Over the last March 16, 2010 1:02 PM GMT
Brian was probably given instruction to keep him out the back, most of Fentons runners are kept out the back and produced late..
Report Allez March 16, 2010 1:02 PM GMT
Agree 100% Over The Last, he'll farm small field tactical affairs. However he doesn't jump well enough to be a complete superstar, it does however show what a tool he is to get so close to two very decent horses imo.
Report macrocky March 16, 2010 1:03 PM GMT
Its a very measured criticism of brian o connell to be fair, the pace wasnt that fast and he ran in the latter half of the field till the home turn and ran wide, as people said its a lesson learned hopefully, many people would change the jockey philip fenton isnt like that , are the owners?

Horses make fools of us.

Some good tipping there lads.

Race 1) Menorah. Plenty of shouts 4 this one. Ernst was first up.

Race 2) Sizing Europe. Andrew Lynch at the Chel preview last week said he was catching pigeons. Anthony Bromley said at the preview ignore Captain Ceebee as its jumping was woeful that night.

Race 3) Chief Dan George. Not tipped up here. Anthony Bromley said it was between The package and Bensalem. How far would that of won had he stayed on his feet.

Race 4) Binocular. Tipped up here at least once.

Race 5) A New Story. Well done, Norn, Prospero, and others

Race 6) Quevega. Over The Last horses always make us eat our words!! :)

Putting €50 on chelsea tonight. Left L'ami out of the place pot in error. It cost me only a tenner in the end but i said I would lay quevega to get it back. That has me down €30. So Chelsea at 4/6 gets me that back DV.

Report mcgoldrick March 16, 2010 5:06 PM GMT
ha! thanks for the belated mench.

I am all in on Long run tomorrow and will be keeping my stakes small elsewhere. I believe it could produce the performance of the festival.

I fancy Drumbaloo for the bumper but you guys will know better than me for that race.

I take it as a negative that PPower are best priced (8s) against it to be perfectly honest.

Norn Iron is a better bet to go through the card - wd to him and good luck to everyone tomorrow. Did well to get three Irish winners despite Dunquids, CCB and GC going down.
Report soapp March 16, 2010 5:21 PM GMT
Patrick Mullins at a recent preview said he cant have Drumbaloo. He told me on Sunday he should be on Dayofalifetime. Havent checked the bumper myself yet.
Report ACE KICKER March 16, 2010 5:25 PM GMT
Much of the race revolved around last year´s imperious Champion Bumper winner Dunguib, who had gone from strength to strength since embarking on his hurdling career, culminating in a bloodless win in the Deloitte at Leopardstown last month. That success caused plenty of debate about how his jumping would stand up here, as he was sluggish at his hurdles, and there was also the other matter of his usual pilot Barry O´Connell, who had yet to even ride in a race over jumps outside of Ireland. Well backed, he was restrained early on, as he had been on his previous outing. It seemed clear that the tactics were to keep him wide, surely in order to give him a clear sight of his obstacles, but his jumping was sufficient and clearly too much had been made of it after his previous win. It was O´Connell´s decision to keep him right on the outside of runners, just as the first pair were going for home turning in, that ultimately found him out, and he lacked the turn of foot on this quicker surface to make up the deficit the manoeuvre cost him.

It may well be that time will tell hehas run close to his previous level in defeat, but surely had he saved more ground early on he would have got closer to them where it mattered. He will now likely head for the Punchestown Festival and his trainer is inclined to stick to the novice route.
Report ACE KICKER March 16, 2010 5:26 PM GMT
Even the racing post recognises they fcuked it up.
Report soapp March 16, 2010 5:46 PM GMT
Agreed Ace.

No point in going the scenic route just cos you think you are on the best hoss.
Report Dan Chipowski March 16, 2010 5:54 PM GMT
Chelt is just far too competitive for anything to go wrong, or get anything wrong tactically. Seems like Fenton listened to much to all the negative comments re the jumping and wouldn't just let the horse run a normal race up the inside.

If Ruby & Nicholls had Dunguib, he'd have won today imo.
Report redbait March 16, 2010 5:57 PM GMT
If he went the shortest way round on the inner and jumped poorly because he wasnt getting a sight of his hurdles, the same mugs would be crucifying him for giving a "dodgy jumper" a "brainless" ride. The horse wasn't good enough on the day, if he had won by a length under the same ride how many people would be commenting on how wide he was?
Report soapp March 16, 2010 6:03 PM GMT
He had the hoss way too far back as well.

The old adage "You can give weight but not distance" comes to mind here.
Report redbait March 16, 2010 6:08 PM GMT
That was just bad luck. They clearly analysed the race, as we all did, and thought there would be plenty of pace, so they took the decision to drop him out. As it turns out, they didn't go quick at all and O'Connell was stuck. He couldn't risk firing up a hard pulling horse by asking him to take closer order after a few furlongs. All told, a combination of factors conspired against him, but was he finishing like a horse that would have hacked up under different circumstances? Not for me. In fact, he was weakening slightly at the finish. Just not the same horse today for whatever reason.
