The evening's other standout lot, Forty Foot Tom, came to the sale having won a Navan bumper by 24 lengths in December for Wexford trainer Danny Miley.
The five-year-old was initially bought back for £240,000 in the ring but was subsequently sold privately for £220,000 to agent Gerry Hogan, acting for Best Mate's jockey Jim Culloty, now training in County Cork. Forty Foot Tom is a 16/1 shot with many bookmakers for the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham but he is not certain to line up at the Festival. "He's for a good owner with Jim and whether the horse goes to Cheltenham or not is up in the air at themoment. Punchestown is another possibility," said Hogan. |

Anyone know who bought this.It says a major owner with Jim Culloty bought it.His biggest owner is Dr Lambe who already has the favourite and the second fav in the bumper. That would be interesting if he bought it.

What has Dr Lambe made his money from?

Apparently sent back to Miley. Lame not long after sale and couldn't get back sound. Vets certs finished. Lucky for Dr. Lambe but don't you know he'll spend that money equally stupidly in the near future He worked hard to make it so he is entitled to spend it anyway he wants. Fair play to him. Some of the richest men in the world with the best bloodstock agents and trainers can't even crack it. Only if was so easy. |

How do you expect to crack it sendng horses to Jim Culloty?

The Duck makes a very good point

I'm sure the same was said about all new trainers starting out at some stage.
Maybe the next stupid purchase could be a derby winner for DKW. You don't like Jim and I don't know him, so fair play if he can get a man woth 100 million odd to buy him a few nice horses. |

Gant of course if he gives Weld a couple of hundred grand to buy a yearling he could be a Derby winner. That goes without saying because DKW knows what he is doing. I would think that about 80% of the horses he has had with Weld have been winners. My problem is the money he has wasted on Culloty when it could be much better spent elsewhere. These aren't cheap horses we are talking about. Some of these horses were the top lots at Arquana ahead of many current Group performers. Now money can't guarantee success but you would have to think that at this stage Culloty with all his facilities would have trained at least one decent horse. He has trained about 8 winners on ther track in the five years that he has been licenced (he isn't a new trainer either by the way) which to be frank is a disgrace. The likes of Gordon Elliot and Paul Flynn have been training for less time with much less resources and see how they have done. Even Mike Hourigan Jnr. has trained more winners than Jim in the same length of time and he has no horses. The worst thing of all is that Jim knows he can't train horses. Why do you think he only buys cast-offs? It's because they can nearly train themselves by the time Jim gets them. He has broken down most of the young stores that have been sent to him. Now it's grand if he burns his own and his father-in-laws money but when other people are getting caught up in it then it starts to annoy me. Rant over :)

Fair enough, your obviously from that neck of the woods and are privy to what's going on.
I'm not sticking up for Jim Culloty as he is starting out as a silver spoon trainer. My point is only Dr. Lambe is entitled to spend his money as he wishes. As it's said about a very well known Co. Meath trainer " he sent many a man in Navan to the poorhouse". |

Mike Hourigan has no horses for a very good reason.Who in their right mind would give any horse to him?
|
|
By:
That's my point cooldine, and yet he's still trained more winners than culloty. There are plenty more examples of lets say unfashionable trainers that do better than jim with a lot less resources
