Paddy Powers are going to the top of the sponsorship dealings by talking about a five-year sponsorship deal with Tiger Woods.

They have done the Gay Rugby World Cup to Irelands biggest ever skinny dip but now they want to create more publicity . SportsNewsIRELAND think that this is a complete joke but Powers will be very happy with all the press coverage coming up to the Cheltenham festival.

Power himself admitted:

the "Tiger " brand being involved in a deal with an Irish bookmaker seems highly unlikely . Having said that , recent "management " decisions by Tiger's mentors dont exactly indicate they are directing Tiger down the best path , so who knows ?

With bookmaking more or less frowned upon in USA ( unless it is the state run sort where the authorities have first cut at the "pool " ) , seems unlikely that sponsorship of Tiger by an Irish bookmaker would please the great unwashed American golfing / sporting fraternity .

But its probably a good publicity runner by PP !

pp can't take bets from US customers and the USPGA wouldn't allow this anyway.

Another red herring.

media will lap it up as per usual though - well done lads.

always found it amazing how gambling is frowned upon in the USA, yet the biggest PLC's make their money by prop trading, ie gambling on currencies oil wheat gold lean hogs copper bonds CDS's. but betting on golf, immoral.

For $5,000,000 they might get their logo on the inside of his left sock. The lad made nearly a billion dollars last season.

I must admit I really like this style of Gorilla marketing. It costs PP next to nothing and always creates a good buzz.

They released a statement to the Stock Exchange before the market close outlining the details. Many punters have issues with them and rightly so but shareholders can have no complaints about the management team. This is the best of a long line of ingenius publiclity stunts.

At least they won't have to worry about him betting with them....

The amount of Tournaments he wins they would soon have his account closed anyway. :^0
