I'll repeat the question.

THe question was for post primary and the correct answer is (a)22 weeks Holidays per year......13 weeks Summer holidays, 2 weeks at Easter, 2 Weeks at Christmas, 2 x 1 Week Mid term breaks and 2 weeks approx in various chruch holidays and if one falls on a thursday..take friday also(as you would)...this of course excludes years in which we get over 1 mm of Snow or heavy rain for that matter.....
PS To jigger Yes Travellers & Teachers are two topics I focus on as Both are bleeding The Country dry Although the laziest teacher would still be better than the most honest traveller(if there is such a thing)!

timberman, you seem to hold a grudge against teachers.
sure, id love to have their holidays too and probably could have been one if i wanted.
thats the same for you presumably if you have the proper credentials(or maybe you dont and failed to make it as a teacher and are just jealous!)

Tobywrong & mitch maybe one or both of ye have a vested interest in teachers ??..my problem is why teachers in this country have the highest amount of Holidays in Europe...???..i have no problems with teachers in Germany who have 10 Weeks holidays ...but 22 Weeks in ireland...Irish teachers receive 1.7 Times the salary of a secondary teacher in Germany and 2.2 Times the holidays.... is it any wonder the country is fcuked!!

Comparing the cost of living in Germany with Ireland, get real.............I blame the teachers for the mess the country is in, they should be made sit in empty classrooms during the summer or even better ban the summer holidays for students.

Any other suggestions.............

Gant ...you mention the cost of living in germany as an excuse for paying teachers here 70% more....is the cost of living here 70% dearer??.....The cost of living will be cheap here soon when the country runs out of money!

My better half is a primary teacher, her pay slip was lying on the table as I read this thread ... after a degree, H Dip, currently doing a masters part time, she received 1152e for a fortnight... is that excessive? Hardly....
I wonder do many of the guys leaving comments here actually have any realisation of what the modern teacher actually does... in her class she has 11 different nationalities, (12 if u count Timberman's other pet subject), her's is a large disadvantaged school that has been horrendously hit but savage cutbacks, targeted at the weakest in our society. For example.. Language support? totally inadequate for the language resource's needed in the new multinational society we're living in, other wise your going to get a ghettoized society and give Timberman a whole new subject to moan on..

TGM, lol... but who would u actually like teaching the next generation, morons with no intellect at all? Unqualified illiterates that will work for peanuts...
Don't get me wrong I think the whole education system could do with an overhaul, including some work practices teachers have (is there a workplace any where in the world that couldn't stay the same) but I genuinely do think teachers themselves shouldn't be at the butt of peoples ire.... their holidays alone don't merit the venom that come their way....

The vice-principal of my kids primary school arrives in no earlier than 8.50 everyday and is gone before I leave the grounds having picked her up at 2.45. Great gig!
Oh, she drives a large 08 Lexus.
It`s hard to have sympathy.

Maybe she's married and her husband is a multi millionaire

My wife works in a company where one of the factory workers drives a better spec car than the Chief Executive because of this reason.

Maybe she likes cars and has saved up for years to be able to afford one.

Maybe she doesn't** her money away on Betfair day after day.
