Kerry manager Jack O'Connor has described the decision of goalkeeper Diarmuid Murphy to retire from inter-county action as leaving a "huge void" after the Dingle native confirmed his decision to retire last night.

The 34-year-old who made 41 Championship appearances for the Kingdom won four All-Ireland titles and six Munster titles during his career, culminating in last September's All-Ireland final win over neighbours Cork at Croke Park.
Kerry manager Jack O'Connor said that Murphy would be a hard act to follow between the posts.

"Ultimately he was one of the key reasons we won the All-Ireland, making decisive interventions in big matches. He had to wait his turn (until 2004) but has been a rock since. Given the new rules regarding the square ball, his presence and safe hands under the high ball will also be missed more than most people realise."

Rumour has it Jack got a letter off the Monopoly Commission so Darragh had to go. :0

He will go down as one of the greatest GAA midfileder EVER.

How he never won footballer of the year. Will always be a sad reflecting on those who decide such things.

Funny thing he probably won't even be missed such is the talent coming through at the moment.

Now where's did I put those auld boots ? :^0
