Travelling to Cork tomorrow , have booked a car from "downtown Cork"--which actually is to be picked up from Farmers Cross . How far is it to airport from central railway station , how long will it take to get that distance ? And what is best travel mode ?

Any of the Cork lads tuned in ?

Make sure that you are armed to the teeth. And don't talk to the natives.

airport to railway station is about 20 mins in a taxi (not rush hour). Will cost €15 - €20. There is a bus runs from the airport to centre of town. Not sure of its frequency.

If your going to Farmers Cross to collect the car then the Airport shuttle is no use to you as it wont stop there.

Taxi is the only option I'm afraid. Should take you no then 15 mins but seeing as you'll have 8432 taxis to choose from just offer the driver a €10 flat fee.

Arriving Cork ( Kent station ) around 2 . May change car pick up destination to Airport rather than Farmers Cross by sound of things as airport bus may be easiest way to travel . But my wife and sister in law may go direct to their accomodation while I am picking up car . Seems sensible .

Cannot reconcile "downtown Cork City " with Farmers Cross !

But then one of the Barcelona "City " airports is nearly 50 miles from Barcelona .

Reckon all the "travel " related people / sites bend the rules when descriptions are involved . Some of them are probably part time racecourse stewards when it comes to directions ( ask Barry Geraghty etc ) .

Thanks for on the ground info , lads .

Thanks for the offer Macrocky , but would not want to take you away from "business " during racing etc . Only reason I would avail of your offer would be to "touch base " with you , obviously I am not too time scaled , but you probably are . And there would be "terms and conditions " attached . Cheers !

OK Macrocky. Travelling by train from Dublin , due in at 1.55 I think ( Kent Station I believe ) , provided they are meeting schedules ( and that we are too! ) .

I will carry aloft a Betfair diary ( 2008 version ) with my user name on it . Will look for " macrocky " or my username a la pickup procedures .

Charity picks up taxi fare equivalent . Pint ( or 2 ) for us .

If we for some reason dont connect , dont fret . Things always dont work out as planned . See you tomorrow ( Wed) DV . Cheers .
