The thread about Gary's article at
http://betdiary.com/garyobrien/2010/01/29/ogorman-ban-completely-inadequate/
seems to have disappeared.

Gary pointed out that Tom Doyle has not ridden for Charles Byrnes since he won on Solwhit at Fairyhouse in November 2008.

He did not point out that Tom Doyle had ridden for Charles Byrnes only once before that race, on Burren Ben in the betfair.com Novice Handicap Chase at the Punchestown Festival of the same year.

I think Solwhit's regular jockey Davy Russell may have been booked to ride at the abandoned Newcastle meeting that afternoon - his only ride at Fairyhouse was as a late replacement for Eddie Power on Whatever Next. Is there a rule which says that a jockey may be replaced by another jockey originally scheduled to ride at an abandoned meeting only if the replacement has a registered retainer with the relevant owner or trainer?

Yeah thats true. You are only allowed to replace declared jockeys with stable jockeys or retained jockeys who were supposed to be riding at an abandoned meeting. You can apply the stewards to allow a change in other circumstances but they generally won't grant them

Monksfield,
Perhaps O'Brien should have pointed out that Doyle had only ridden once previously for Byrnes, but as he had managed to win on a horse that wasn't fancied (5/2 to 4/1) wouldn't it be reasonable to expect the trainer to use this successful jockey in the future.
I have noticed that trainers usually use jockeys that have been successful for them.

I was in Wexford that day and all the talk was of Solwhits seemingly unwelcome victory in Fairyhouse. Now Wexford must be at least 90 miles from Fairyhouse yet we seemed to know a lot more about the shenannigans than either the stewards or the media.
If either of racings watchdogs had done their duty that day we wouldnt now be in the situation where the potential Champion Hurdle winner has cast a cloud over the integrity of Irish racing. Whereas English racing will rightly acclaim their great champions if either Denman or Kauto star win the Gold Cup, the Irish champion hurdler will unfortunately be better remembered for winning the Ladbrokes 1800 777 888 Handicap Hurdle (Grade C) at Fairyhouse on November 29th 2008.
If Solwhit does win the Champion Hurdle the same press figures will be falling over themselves to eulogise about him. Charles Byrnes is a great trainer . Its a pity his name gets associated with such happenings

Solwhit had been ear marked for the Pierse hurdle and by winning at Fairyhouse he went up a stone.Judging by what he has done since he would have won the Pierse hurdle doing handstands off a mark of 127.

Can we expect Solwhit to change stables before Cheltenham.

lot stables hold back horses for bigger races the problem is Solwhit was fancied that day, very misleading to punters an integrity of the game is brought into disrepute

I think the uproar on the forums here led to bfair taking a closer look at certain training operations, so wd to all who did.

cant let this go but a certain Shark should also be..............
