Getting that message alright for the last few weeks alright. But not on all functions. Think it`s just the "Todays Horses" one.

Alright!

Lads, is BF Mobile expensive to get started on?

What are the minimumm you need in terms of handset & contract?
Report timberman January 31, 2010 9:54 AM GMT
you need bill pay and i get a certain amout of kbs each month...not overly sure i pay about 30 euro to 02 for more than adequate bf and internet overage each month
Report observerirl January 31, 2010 10:08 AM GMT
Cup, I've an ancient Nokia using O2 package Clear 50 and 250MB(more than adequate) for 22.5(incl VAT) per month. The only downside is the roaming charges for download when abroad.

99 cent per day on pre pay vodafone
Report norekk January 31, 2010 2:12 PM GMT
you don't 'need billpay'. you get metered for internet access the same as for viewing email etc. any phone, any account; there's even an app for that.

BF mobile was very hit and miss on my Vodafone mobile at Limerick today - the worst it has been for many months.

I also had the problems of vanishing offers and invisible P/L described by Timberman on my laptop this morning before I went racing.

I see betfair went through 10 billion offers during the day - I was wondering for a while if all the problems were some sort of Y2K bug multiplied by about 5 million.

I have Mobile Internet 250MB Add On on my o2 plan for 10 euro a month. Only use about 30 or 40MB in a month and I have it on all day at a few race meetings a month and a few times a day when at home. A tenner a month is a good deal imo.

I had no problems until they "upgraded" it. Familiar old story
Report Jobroke February 1, 2010 3:41 PM GMT
I've had similar problems since the upgrade but worked OK at Cheltenham on Saturday.
Report LeinsterBeliever February 1, 2010 4:37 PM GMT
Betfair Mobile is powered by the API so unfortunately when that goes down it goes down. Hence there were a lot of problems over the weekend especially Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Personally I use Betfair mobile all the time and it's great. Especially now that you can update your bets to go in play or take SP.

In terms of cost, I used to have a data package for £10 a month in Ireland, over in the UK now and data is included in most packages as standard. I'd say three mobile and O2 would probably get you the best deals back in Ireland. You'd never go over 100mb's per month unless you have it on the whole time.

Note at remote tracks or really busy ones, Galway, Derby Day, Cheltenham Festival, Royal Ascot you'll do well to get it to work. Data is last in the line of services which providers will serve when there is a big demand or 'cloud' as they call it.

If you're going to Cheltenham make sure you have the telbet number ready. If you are there for the week, just get a SIM card for free from O2 or Organe and add a tenner credit to save you the cost of international calls.

Vodafone/BF Mobile was very hit and miss yesterday at Punchestown. Mind you I was lucky as I couldn't back Dusty Sheehy's Garlough in the last or a few horses in the National Trial. I wouldn't have picked out the winner being 9lb out of the handicap.

What are your views on Betfair lite? I find it offers a superior service to Betfair mobile, especially on a larger screen device such as a Blackberry.
Report LeinsterBeliever February 1, 2010 5:41 PM GMT
I can understand why you like lite as it can show more on the screen but I prefer the quicker scrolling ability on Mobile.

I hear there is a iPhone App coming out soon which could be interesting.

thanks for the useful info

anyone at punchestown yesterday?
would Perfect Smile have finished 3rd if he had jumped the last in the 4.00?
came very close to having a big place bet on him before the race but got cold feet.
Report soapp February 2, 2010 4:23 PM GMT
He was out on his feet but I think he would have come 3rd imo.

Noel Meade was in our hospitality tent earlier in the day and reckoned he would win if he was back to his best. There had been a genuine excuse for his previous run.
