Excellent. Loved the tale about Gazalani. Where ever Istabraq ran. Gazalani in his own right followed. No more than a half dozen horses max ran in them. Gazalani as Brady said was nearly always placed in these and won well over a 100 grand.
He also told a story about his 100/1 winner in Navan. I can't remember the name of the horse. Mattock Ranger from the Meade stable was the fancied one in it. He had 4 stone in hand on Oliver's horse. It was a Grade 3 race. This mare was only worth 500. She was slow to boot, but kept going the same pace all the way to the line. Oliver told Nicky O'Shea to tell the boys at the start that he would make it. Oliver told him that would give him a 20 length start at least as they thouught he was mad to be even running in it. Oliver then said to Nicky go fast from the traps and that will give you another 20 lengths. The starter let them go, and after a furlong the mare was a distance clear. (I remember being there that and throwing a few bob on at 20/1 in running and laying a bit off at 2/1) She duly kept going at the same pace and came home a 10 length winner. Now she had black type. Oliver told the owner to sell straight away. The boys from England duly bought her for 60k.
Some boyo Oliver.
