REMEMBER LAST YEAR when Newmill was taken out hours before the off !!!

TONY McCOY will replace David Casey on Dancing Tornado in Sunday's Pierse Hurdle at Leopardstown after the weights for the big handicap were raised 8lb following the defection of top-weight Newmill.

McCoy was not declared for any of owner J P McManus's three runners in the race as he was due to ride at Carlisle before that meeting was abandoned.

Dancing Tornado, a winner at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting and trained for McManus by Michael Hourigan, will now carry 11st 1lb instead of 10st 7lb.

Also set to switch mounts due to the weight rise was Andrew McNamara, who was briefly claimed as stable jockey to Edward O'Grady to ride his Fen Game, but is now back on Siege Of Ennis after stewards accepted trainer Eddie Harty's objection to McNamara being allowed to change rides following the 8lb rise in the weights.

Harty had declared McNamara for Siege Of Ennis at Friday's final declaration stage and his objection was that it was unfair on him and his owners that McNamara be allowed to switch mounts.

Irish Classic hero Seamie Heffernan is now back Fen Game.

I love the idea of Mr Mullins pondering whether to send Beroni & Monty over 29f at Chepstow or coming back to a 16f hurdle :^0

Our Monty would be some horse to win the Cork National and this.

Leopardstown Racecourse announced yesterday that MCR Group, the Irish owned specialist service group of companies who employ close on 800 people, will sponsor the January Handicap Hurdle (Grade B) (formerly the Pierse Hurdle) and the Leopardstown Novice Steeplechase (Grade 2), which will be run on January 10th 2010.

The MCR Hurdle with a prize fund of €100,000 is always one of the most competitive handicap hurdles of the year. The race has a tradition of being one of the biggest betting races since the days it was sponsored by Ladbrokes and that carried through to years that the race carried the Pierse Hurdle title.

Douglas Taylor, Managing Director of MCR Group said:

I took a chance and backed Moville for this today before decs. 16-1 celtic too good to miss. Few nibbles for him with Billys and Stan so someone thinks he runs. Like the way he battled at Navan, sort of young unexposed type that wins this.

I thought Moville looked shockingly handicapped at the start of the year but his Navan win has worked out well with the three chasing him home all running well NTO. His age group have a poor record in this race though.

Didn't stop Essex in '05 Prosp, also 4 out of 5 winners from 93 (as far as my records go). Lack of recent 5yos just a statistical blip, IMO. Looks a poor renewal this year, a lot of exposed dead wood.

Agree looks a poor renewal. I've backed Thousand Stars at this point and Torphichen (another 5yo) is another I'm looking at.

Whats the chances of this going ahead? Looking unlikely i would have thought.

[i] PROSPECTS of Leopardstown meeting on Sunday, featuring the €60,000 MCR Hurdle, taking place are under threat given the bleak forecast for the remainder of the week.
The field for the 2m handicap was reduced to 32 possible runners on Tuesday when conditions at the track were described as "unraceable".
Tom Burke, course manager at Leopardstown, said:

Jigalo........... had a nice pipe opener at x-mas. Drop back in trip should not be a problem. Outside track will reduce the chance of trouble in running for a horse that needs holding up......NAP to place, decent win bet...

I'm on Gallant Light at a very decent price and could Liz Doyle do it again with the bottom weight?

Anybody know why Loughrasn rides Moville rather than Madden or Flood?

Flood chose Steviemac instead.
