if you get paid on in ladcrooks, you usually have to tell the staff it returned better as they have to manually change the docket
The reason is that Ladcrooks have about 2,500 shops throughout the UK and Ireland, of which only 10% guarantee prices, ie only the 250 or so shops in the south of Ireland. Ladcrooks were dragged kicking and screaming into the whole guaranteed price thing because spoils and PP were putting the squeeze on them. Prices are not guaranteed up North, or in the British shops as the likes of Curals and billy Hill don't either.
The computer systems in these 2,500 shops are linked up together and they settle the bets, but unfortunately as only a small percentage of shops guarantee prices, the computers don't automatically settle a bet at the better price.
This is the explanation although it may not be a very good one. In my own opinion, as someone who works for Ladcrookkes, it is rather lazy, as I'm sure some upgrade could be made to automatically settle bets in just the Southern Irish shops. The main reason they won't change the situation is that they view Guaranted prices as a temporary measure - something to put up with for a while with gritted teeth.
And I know movements are a foot to end the whole Guaranteed Price industry wide. If the big three of Ladcrooks, PP and spoils are all doing it, then no one is gaining much of a market advantage and they are all losing signinifcant amounts of money. If Ladcrooks could get PP to drop GPs then they will also drop it instantly, with some relieff.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did. It must be hammering percentage profits. Bookmakers are not obliged to offer this. However imv they are obliged to lay a proper bet to all punters who bet in a reasonable way.

Wont make a whole lot of difference to a lot of us on here , removing gtd prices , as a lot of us have not been allowed the privelege despite the claim of gtd odds . Only one firm on the internet still offers me gtd odds , the others ( who will stay lay me ) all have withdrawn the privelege by curiously worded messages .
Ladcrooks do not guarantee prices in the shops in the North ( not surprising considering the price they paid for the shops concerned , one of the bean counters obviously had a rush of blood to the head commercially ) .
So any people who still use their shops where they do , make the most of it . Agree with**gykev , think this option will disappear soon wherever it exists , anyway the chains generally don't seem to want horse business .

I have many a/c's but now automatically ring Paddys when having a bet over the phone.
They certainly gained mega custom out of this, and will lose it just as fast.
I might as well crooks instead then.
Paddys were first with this offer I believe.I have many a/c's but now automatically ring Paddys when having a bet over the phone. They certainly gained mega custom out of this, and will lose it just as fast.I might as well crooks instead then.
Guaranteed odds has been available in certain areas for years. Here in Navan I reckon its at least 4 years since it wasn`t par for the course in every shop. It was started by independents and the major firms simply had to follow suit.

Laddies are very inconsistent about the guaranteed prices in the shops though
It's all races one week, next week handicaps only got caught once like that when i'd have been better off with an independent
rare you'll see Spoils or Lads top price
paddies and indos much better

I wouldn`t expect otherwise soapp. I noticed this Magic sign situation a few months back. It certainly is the only firm you have to tell the staff the sp! I`m amazed that its still being offered tbh, especially on the websites. Looks like most of them are willing to grin and bear it because it gives them a significant advantage for backers over the exchanges, for now.

From a legal view, would/is it a form of cartel, if all the firms came together and decided that there would be no more gtd prices. I know they are not obliged to offer it, but if they all decide at once to end it, would there be a problem with the legalities of it?
