After seeing about a 24 year old in Donaghmeade stabbed like a dog the side of the road and the growing numbers of murders not to mention the man accussed of last sunday nights double Murder showing his arssee to a judge showing what these vermin think of the law the death penalty might make a few of them think twice...lots of other benefits including the savings from housing these pieces of**m in prison and freeing up prison space etc
Yes a few jobs could be created as well...save a lot though housing a murderer or top drug lords for twenty years although with the micky mouse sentences they get that might only be five years, still it would reduce peoples quickness in killing for kicks

Timberman it costs more to have someone on death row then to keep them in for life. the costs of the endless appeals and special housing for those on death row costs more than the life imprisonment.
I would go for the death penalty, but its time that those who break the law should be punished and punished hard, bring back the chain gangs and even proper community service for those with lighter offences.
we need to make prison a more inhospital place to be, i would like to see the return of manual labour -- make them farm to sustain the prison and make them work hard in prison.
fcuk them, if they do the crime they do HARD TIME.

I'd be in favour of the death penalty for the worst cases. A man or woman who murders a spouse in a crime of passion is a long way removed from, for example, the people who murdered that young plumber, Mr Campbell, a few years ago. Those guys, if caught, should be executed imo.

Good thinking lads, sure take it a little further.
You could sell on the body parts and in turn save lives and raise money for the national defecit. A body with full functions organs is worth $120k on the open according to the UN.
If there we're on average 100 convicted murders a year we'd raise $120,000,000 a year, plus less dole money to pay because they're obviously wasters on the state. It also costs 90,000 to keep a prison in jail a year so a 27 year sentence which is life minus two years or so for appeals would be another 200,000k saving over their lifetime in jail. It's a win win really.
FFS lads, what right do we have to take someones life away from them? No matter what anyone else does, we don't as a society have the moral right to kill them.

Leinsterb we dont have a moral right to kill anyone , but we do have a moral duty to protect the innocent.
i dont agree with capital punishment , but we do need some proper deterrent to the wrong doers.
we need people to recognise the downside of their doing, if a kid was to get a year in jail for stealing a mars bar then it would stop. if you got 20 years for stealing a car it would stop.
the downside has to vastly out weigh the upside.

A friend of mine owns the loval Centra store store. It was broken into some months ago. The perpetrator was easily identifiable & was as they say 'known to the Gardai'. His primary motive (apart from stealing loads of cigarettes & booze) was he wanted to get caught as he preferred being in prison. In case the Centra raid wasn't enough to ensure a custodial sentence he attempted to break into the Bank of Ireland on his way home. Prison isn't a deterrant. The Death Penalty isn't an alternative as EU membership forbids it.
The only legal way out of it is to declare war on another state with a similar problem. Convicted murderers, rapists, kidnappers, armed robbers, errant bankers, bankrupt property developers & c0rrupt politicians will form an elite fighting battalion that would spearhead the assault on a similar group fielded by the opposition. 'Artillery cover' would be provided by both sides until no survivors remained. When the battle was over a peace treaty would be signed.

Anyway, to get back to my original point, I think the death penalty is appropriate in the worst cases. They entered that house to murder another gangster figure. They found someone else there, a civilian, someone they had no business with, and they made a snap decision to take his life too. In my book, that was an unspeakable act, and I think the people responsible should be executed. If the death penalty did exist for crimes of that seriousness, then I think those guys might have made a different snap decision.

Now, I'm the kind of man that wouldn't harm a mouse But if I catch somebody breakin' in my house I've got a twelve gauge shotgun waitin' on the other side So don't go pushin' me against my will I don't want to have to fight you but I durn sure will So if you don't want trouble that you'd better just pass me on by As far as I'm concerned there ain't no excuse For the raping and the killing and the child abuse And I've got a way to put and end to all that mess You just take those rascals out in the swamp Put them on their knees and tie 'em to a stump And let the rattlers and the bugs and the alligators do the rest
