And HRI will complain about government cuts instead of looking at the courses decisions to charge like this. I presume the trash that passes for food was akin to this as well.

The races on Stephens day was always the only ticket in town. Rugby was confined to a few club matches, games no one wanted to play . I remember playing a game one day ,winter showers hail etc. one guy was injured , all of us were frozen. Loooked up at the bar to see the whole crowd looking out .
Unfortunately the days of Limerick opening the gates and waiting for the crowds are long gone. T**nd Park is the hottest ticket in town 20000 odd there tonight. What does Limerick do ? Up the prices They will argue they offered a 4 day ticket for e50. I say that at most 50 pay in punters will attend all 4 days. TIME TO GET REAL |

e25 is very reasonable for top class entertainment then Thurles on a thursday (often 8 races) 4 hours entertainment...e30? My argument is Limerick's total disregard of these economic times. If Limerick hopes to attract 10000 people to its gates again it has got to offer them an incentive. All week they have been press releasing that they expect 40000 to attend the xmas meeting. Oh well only 35000 to go. Every product has a price People voted with their feet today and Limerick's biggest problem will be to get them back into the habit or tradition of going to the races on Stephen's Day |

There is not 4 hours of entertainment though and there are other costs within the course. The price of food is a joke. Courses today imho would have done well to charge 10euro entry with kids free.
No doubt we have to listen to belly aching from HRI about how hard done by they are with budget cuts. |

Fully agree they screwed up big time yesterday with the higher adm fee and were caught out with the weather stopping loads of people getting there. They always seem to charge more for the 1st day, obviously in the knowledge that they will get those "want to be seen there in my finery" people to attend before hitting the town later on.
They had advertised in some of the local rags that there was a discount of 5 if you pre booked on line but strangely, this only applies to day 1 - days 2 & 3 are 20 and day 4 is down to 15. As Joe has already said, the price of the grub in their is also a bit of a rip off - about 4.50 for a small bowl of soup, roll and butter charged extra (I know its only a few bob on top but its the principle that they CAN get away with it). Noy anymore lads, wake up and see what is happening to the businesses that have not dropped (or as FF say "adjusted") their prices. |

I think in general all the racecourses need to look at what they are offering the general public. they too need to get the whole value for money concept into their brain.
the curragh charging 50 on derby day and then stiff you for the race card. galway festival charging 30 on wed/thurs and an extra 2 for the kids and again stiff you for the racecard. ballinrobe when asked for a group rate for a works do offered 2 off ( a few free bets and a drinks voucher and they would have had 15 newbies at the races) its all right saying well look at the rugby matches 60-150 a pop but theres only 6 of those a year. they recently sent a voucher to syndicate members offering a discount to the last meet at galway, why not free entry ( we could also upgrade for a stupid price ) i went to the bother of writing to them but needless to say they never bothered to reply. |

The problem is that it is going to take years to breed the rip off culture out of most of the service sector and racecourses are prime examples.
To give an example the tote on Greyhound tracks in the UK take 30% out of all pools and more from exotic pools. This despite the example of the IGRB showing that reducing the take out is not only better for business but leads to more profit. There are none so blind as those that refuse to see and the Racecourse executives fit that statement like a glove |

Remember Mallow not allowing me to use my USIT student card to get the reduced entry about 18 months ago. They said only official university student cards acceptable.
I wrote a letter to the magager of the course on the Monday trying to explain that the young people will be the future racegoers etc.. Got a letter back saying that they were not going to be easing up on their official student card requirement. Only been to Mallow twice since. |

went to aqueduct in New York about 10 years ago and general admission was $1. The dame asked did I want an upgrade and I said how much and she said that would be another $1 !!. A huge comfortable facility for punters.
At Leopardstown yesterday the joker in the main concourse beside the paddypower shop wanted 10 euro for a small beef roll. I told him he could keep it and wished him well!i Having said the the Costa shop provided a goos sizes americano for 2.5, which was fair value. |

If your giving out about 25 admission for national hunt racing at limerick they charge 18 admission for a 6 race flat evening meeting in the summer. Totally agree its a disgrace.
