Winning Ways Racing is sponsoring the bumper on days three and four of the Leopardstown December Festival to co-incide with the launch of our new syndicate Winning Ways Momentum.
As part of the sponsorship, I have a pair of tickets to offer one lucky Betfair member which can be used on either day three (Lexus Chase) or four (December Hurdle) or you can have one for each day!!

First of all Betfair are giving tickets for Leopardstown to alot of customers so it isnt much of a prize now is it.I have 2 that i dont even want.Secondly it says that the horse made 24k at the sales and everybody knows all is not what it seems at racehorse sales.It wouldnt be the first horse to be knocked down for a certain figure when the real figure was a hell of alot less.According to their site a 10% share can be bought for 2900 with a training fee of 50 a week after that.That makes the horse worth 29k which is highly questionable,and surely Colm Murphy isnt charging a monkey a week.If he is then he has a bigger cheek than the people who are behind this sweet little syndicate.

Jimeen, everyone at the sales faces the same issues. We go with a budget and a nice horse in mind and if the two match we are happy. If they don't we won't buy. The 24k sales prices ends up being 28k when you include VAT and insurance. So not far off the 29k and the 1k is returned to the syndicate members.
The 50 a week is my guess at the average weekly cost over a four year period and includes all training, farrier, vets and racing costs etc and the assumptions are on the website. It's pretty transparent and I've tried to be conservative so there is no shortfall. While members pay circa 50 a week, if the training and racing costs are less then there is a refund or a period where the 50 is not required. So it's not an all in fee at all where people can make serious money out of it. Members clearly see the management fee on a separte line in the assumptions and that's all I take out of it so there is no skimming.....unlike with all in fees when a horse is on a break. |

fair play catch me for highlighting these jockers...50 a week for a share in a horse...with a million members and no say in it...lucky there wont be enough fools the join there syndicate,,enough of these jocker clubs,,,new winning way ye are about 6 years too late...

BI- To me this is the oldest trick in the book(one which i ashamedly admit that i fell for myself one time).Get the horse and add a little so to make a free share for the person who put the syndicate together.That person doesnt contribute financially but has a massive say in the running,riding and training of the said animal.The one area where your argument collapses is where you say that the net cost of the animal was 28 k,that is propably the case,but why charge 2900 for a 10% stake then.What is the point in charging every member a 100 too much,and then say we will give it back after.Why not just charge the 2800 in the first place?

Jimeen, I'm not a speculator or in it for a massive profit so I need to get circa 60% of the syndicate together beforehand so need to have a budget for those 60% of members to know (e.g. 2,900 per member). I take the risk on the other 40% and try to get new members in after we buy the horse. If I don't spend their money they get back their money (i.e. that's the 100 returned to each member when the price was 28k).
I take at least 10% of each horse (or up to 40%) and it's not free. I paid Goffs my share of the 28k we spent plus I put my 10% in for the training and racing costs. Other than the opportunity to particpate in another horse (which I pay for anyway), the only thing I get out of it is a management fee which is very clearly identified in the cashflow assumptions. The lads making the bucks out of syndicates are those buying for 28k and selling for 35k.....which I don't do. Or those charging an all in fee when the horse is on grass for three months of the year......which I don't do. I have over 40 members and 98% of them are happy with the syndicates which I think is a pretty good satisfaction rate. 100% is always the aim. While not all our horses are world beaters, regular communication, stable visits and training/racing plans keep the syndicates very well informed......unlike a lot of other syndicates where you get three communications a year. Why don't you come and visit our horses and see how it works? |

BI -Horse ownership of any form is no longer high on my list due to the severe costs and the lack of opportunities nowadays to get a return on ones investment.When there is a group involved,it makes secrecy an impossibility and that negates any chance of landing a reasonable touch even if the horse was able to deliver the goods on the required day.The downturn in the ecconomy has made it impossible to get reasonable money unless you are trading at basement prices.
County champions-I will be in Limerick on Stephens Day and if you can give me the name of any racecourse bookmaker from Clare that you may know,i will leave the tickets with them for you to collect whenever it suits you.I'l check this on the morning of the 26th and if you havent replied then i'l forget about ya,if you do reply then i'l gladly pass them on to you. |

bad form on betfairs part that they only gave jimeen 2 tickets we all know he is one of the biggest... sickest men playing...at the same time would rather have a share in him then a share in a beast with ca murphy even after premium charges...they could have put him and his croonies up in a box

Rebel 1-Unfortunately no longer one of the biggest nowadays,a classic example of that old saying"when boys had money they thought they were men and when their money was gone they were boys again".Still propably up there as one of the sickest,its times like these when there is no racing that you actually realise how sick you are.You know theres something wrong when you are looking forward to Stephens Day ten times as much as your kids are looking forward to Christmas morning.
