Weld first and last double.. will try find something to beat him in the second, horse didnt run well last twice on soft ground, if hes fav I'll take him on with something but obviously wont go mad.

Biggest bet Cross Appeal the one for me in the hurdle.

THE BUMPER at 3.30 has always been a great race for future stars BUT with ONLY 11 of the 23 qualified entries, it's a bit disappointing although there's no doubt we will hear from most of these again and again !

Not declared are Carloswayback(PNolan), Cnoc Na Heornan(SLynch), Epic Hero(FFlood), Kings County Star(PJGilligan), Kingsmoss(JJLambe), Oscar's Ballad(MrsJBRoss), Swift Accordian(CAMurphy) & Willie Martin(MO'Hare).

No place for Mullins's 'Up Ou That' or 'Kerb Appeal' (Mullins did mention on radio with Darragh Maloney yesterday that his team "will not be ready early in the Christmas....more later Christmas or New Year time").

'Peqeno Diablo' (with 3 other entries) may need the racecourse experience after his two November runs in pt-to-pts. 'Acey' for TJ Nagle Jr. may be on a sales mission after his 6th of 18 18.50L behind Arkose last May (a few nice types in front of him that day were 2nd Lucky William, 3rd Steel Park (2nd in this race last year) & 4th Oscar Close).

Of the 3 so-called unknown newcomers - Harrington's 'Bostons Gift' (also entered Friday) and Eoin Doyle's 'Tornado Bob' (a Bob Back related to 2 time winner Ramsden Boy) - preference is for McKiernan's 'Well Regarded' (2 other entries) as he was a 5/2fav, 2nd of 9 in a Marlin pt-to-pt.

The neighbours have a decent one in the winning pointer 'Prince Of Milan' (also entered Friday) who's 3rd of 16 14L behind the very impressive 'Al Ferof' reads well. Seasoned bumper rider Roger Quinlan should have a few clues for the Slatterys in this race.

'Toor Brook Honours', a 25/1 shot, 2nd of 16 1 ¼L behind De Bromhead's 'Sizing Mexico' might turn out to be a good run.
It's noted that De Bromhead has made another 4-y-o choice in this, and is prepared to 'Spill The Beans' whom Nina has ridden on his two good runs to date. Patrick M. now takes the ride !!!

None of the runners are 'yet' owned by JP, but John Kiely does have a nice type in 'Frawley' (C.Motherway claims 5 as Mr D O'Connor is in Down Royal)(2nd of 24 8L behind Quantitativeeasing and then 7/4 fav, 7th of 12 30.50L behind Age Benefit in that good Dick Grainger Memorial bumper).
John should have an even better clue of his chances in this race, on a line back thro' his Life Of Reilly/Tornedo Shay(& R.Quinlan). He took this race last year with Wave Power with Weld's 2/1 fav Lead The Parade back in 9th. NB.

Meade relies on 'Jakros' (also entered Friday), 5th in the Dick Grainger bumper (rather than 'Gran Torino' & 'Original Option').

Although not seen for 349 days (hopefully it's not his downfall), Dr Lambe's plan for two Cheltenham bumper winners in a row was spoiled only by Dunguib and Some Present last season. ('Rite Of Passage' is expected to follow in Cousin Vinny's footsteps in the 1st race at 12.10)
This season's plan may work out better, as my days nap (a 7/4fav, 2nd of 15 1L behind Tornedo Shay last January) is Weld's 7/4 fav 'Elegant Concorde'.

7/4 Elegant Concorde, 9/2 Frawley, 5/1 Toor Brook Honours, 7/1 Spill The Beans, 8/1 Prince Of Milan, Jakros, 14/1 Well Regarded, Bostons Gift, 25/1 Tornado Bob, 33/1 Peqeno Diablo, Acey.

At 1:20 is the Grade 2 Juvenile Hurdle.
Looking back through the years of this race we came across some interesting names like Harchibald & Golden Cross (4th & 6th in 2002), Al Eile (2nd, 2003) along with 2004 winner Arch Rebel (an 8-time winner, who runs here Monday). We note the usual Weld 3-y-o runner is missing this year too.

In 2009, we see 'Our Nana Rose' run for the 14th time !!! (won 4 and placed 3 times for Pat Martin).
She was 2nd of 11 2 ½L behind the Mullins/Walsh 4/5fav Doctor Deejay in Gowran and came good at Fairyhouse lto when challenged under pressure and led before last, soon clear, stayed on well in a decent maiden hurdle. Some filly and cheap too.

'Cross Appeal' had 'Action Master' 2nd & 'Mosstown' back in 3rd in the fog at Fairyhouse last time.
While he may be on the upgrade, he should only pose a small threat for a while on the run-in. A 33/1 shot for the Triumph in March.

This season's most impressive horse, running here today, is no doubt 'Alaivan' (Sizing Europe fans keep your knickers on). He was an easy winner in Gowran lto and is our nap material from the in-form yard. (They would never be so bold and lay him). O'Grady hasn't had a real good one in this race since the ill-fated Kentucky Charm was 5th to Arch Rebel in '04. The 6/1 clear fav for the Triumph Hurdle in Chetlenham should go all the way to the top and one hopes he is lightly campaigned in the coming years !

Forecast: 10/11 Alaivan, 9/2 Cross Appeal, 6/1 Action Master, Our Nana Rose, 8/1 Mosstown, Leblon, 14/1 Shanrod, 16/1 Carlito Brigante

Dooes anybody give Schelm a chance for Ronald O'Leary and Paddy Flood at 33/1?

He bet Free World, Moon Over Miami and Doctor David at Bangor the last day! Three horses who were themselves were once considered potential Arkle winners in their respective novice chase campaigns. Now admittedly, Free World might lack a little bit of heart and the other two aren't exactly in their best form but still all Schelm could do was beat them and that he did fairly well.

I've doubts about the leading three in the betting and may have a small sporting bet on Schelm for an interest!

No harm that Andrew Mc doesnt ride SE anymore in my opinion.

Do agree though that at the current prices Osana looks a better bet. Very little between the two horses on hurdles form.

Mine for today:

12.10 This race has been won by 5 years olds priced 10/1 or below every year since 2000. Horses with previous hurdling experience and have run in a graded event are preferred.
Rite Of Passage is the obvious pick having finished 3rd in the Cheltenham Champion Bumper last season and winning the November handicap in fine style last time out. This will be his first start over hurdles after if he takes to jumping then it is very hard to see anything beating him, however Rite Of Passage is priced accordingly.
Gates Of Rome (each way) made a very promising beginning to his hurdling career when runner-up to Qualviro in the 2m4f Punchestown maiden hurdle on yielding to soft. He finished 5 lengths clear of Hugo De Vindecy and Whatdoyouthink who have both franked the form by winning or finishing 2nd since.
He was slightly disappointing when 3rd in a Naas maiden hurdle on heavy ground. He moved up into contention after 3 out but didnt appear to get home in the very soft ground.
He did win his point to point on good ground so will appreciate the slightly better ground today at Leopardstown and I dont think the step back to 2m2f will be a problem. His hurdling experience might give him an edge over Rite Of Passage. 7/1 PP

12.45 Whodoyouthink (eah way) has shown enough in his two runs over hurdles to suggest he can go very close in this maiden hurdle and he looks a safe each way bet at 5/1 or bigger.
He was 4th in a 2M 4F Punchestown maiden hurdle on yielding to soft first time out this season, the 3rd Hugo De Vindecy, who finished just a short head ahead of Whodoyouthink, gained a second and a win on his next two starts.
Whodoyouthink showed improvement from that first run to take 2nd in another 2m4f Punchestown maiden hurdle on heavy. He took it up entering the straight but was headed coming to the last by Summit Meeting who was upped to a grade 1 next time out but ran no sort of race. The form of those in behind has worked out well with the 4th Carrighoun (who was 24 lengths behind Whodoyouthink) finishing 3rd in a handicap hurdle off 95 next time out and the 5th Seven Days (who was 29 lengths behind Whodoyouthink ) winning a Cork maiden hurdle next time out.
The favourite Universal Truth will be very hard to beat if taking to hurdling but Whodoyouthink is proven on soft ground and the drop back to 2M 2F should suit. His previous hurdling experience may give him the edge and at 6/1 SJ hes a solid each way bet.

1.20 Alaivan will be short but looks the one to beat based on his very easy win on his hurdling debut. He was a listed winner on the flat and beat subsequent winner Leblon by 15 lengths last time out. On a line through Surprise Vendor he should easily have the beating of Action Master, Cross Appeal and Mosstown. No bet at 1/2.

1.50 Happy Reunion (each way) won a 2m3f Fontwell handicap hurdle on his first start this season off a mark of 100. He followed that up by taking 2nd in a 2m3f Cork handicap hurdle on his penultimate start off 103. He was very well supported in a decent Doncaster novice hurdle last time and still travelling well when coming down 3 out. Hes racing off 107 today but I still think hes handicapped to run a big race in this. 14/1 PP

2.20 Osana looks the value bet in this grade 1 novice chase at 3/1. He has impressed in his 2 runs over fences, winning both. He beat Roberta Goldback (who subsequently lowered Cousin Vinnys colours in a chase) on his first start over fences and then won very easily by 12 lengths last time out. Osana met Sizing Europe twice over hurdles. He was beaten 4 lengths by Sizing Europe in the 07 Greatwood but was conceding 6lbs. He finished well ahead of his in the 08 Champion Hurdle, though something appeared to go wrong with Sizing Europe.
Eddie OGrady won this race in 2007 with Skys The Limit and Osanas form warrants him to be very close to Sizing Europe and I think he may just be good enough to defeat him. 10/3 PP

2.55 is a no bet race for me, a 15 runner handicap chase. Kranji is interesting from the Arthur Moore yard who has won this 3 times in the last 7 years. Kranji won this in very impressive fashion in 2007 but hasnt run since. Hes up 6lbs but if fit is capable of winning this again. If theres market support for him Id give him a solid chance.

3.30 Frawley (each way) can go close in this if able to reproduce the form of his first run. He was runner-up in a very hot Punchestown bumper. The 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th have all won since. Frawley disappointed last time when 7th in another Punchestown bumper on only start this season but the heavy ground may not have been ideal and he may come on for the run. John Kiely won this race last year and does well in bumpers here. 71 B365
