Normally not put up until after the January competitions.
Who do ya fancy? Cork should be hard to beat but UUJ have assembled a wonder squad this year, will have to see how they gel in the McKenna Cup but were very impressive in the Ryan Cup, Darren Hughes in particular playing out of his skin since being awarded the captaincy. |

CIT gotta still be hot favourites, as pretty much same squad as last year.
UUJ have the old enemy in the first round. QUB / UUJ - form book goes out the window in that one. They'll take lumps outta each other. Apparently UUJ romped the league. Crushed Sligo IT in the semi and cruised through the final, so defo one to watch if they get over the first hurdle. Difficult to get a decent market on this but would be nice to see something on it here, maybe. Very few bookies do it. I contacted PP and they later in the tourney. Funny last year, you could get a bet on p PP Norn Iron but not in the South!?! A friend had a nice touch on CIT @ 12s early days. It's a bit crap having to wait til practically semi stage to get anything remotely interesting on. I'm sure QUB/UUJ lads would like a nice punt on themselves early days, not to mention on that fixture alone!?! |

^^ Agreed**gykev.
Final usually gets shown on tg4 live, with a snippet of the semis prior to it. About the best football you'll see in the country during the winter, bar none! Miles ahead of any of that Club C'ship b******t! Sad thing is you can get odds on the Club C'ship from Oct/Nov onward. That plays off Paddy's day. Sigerson goes off end Feb. About 16 teams. Full draw made. And not a sniff of a bet to be had until around last 4. Anybody know if any bookies cover it? A market on here for it would be savage! Bein able to green up on teams and lay off the donks - deadly! ;) I've heard of Mullhollands in Galway, but Laddies told me they may not do a market on it. PP not til semis any odds. Spoils maybe? Anyone know any more on bookies doin it please let us know |

**gyKev - incredible fitness allright, hence nordy defensive football, couldn't watch it personally but good betting towards the end of the comp, early doors is a minefield. CIT went off 7/4 to win the final last year on home turf - a gimme if ever there was one.

The competition is a great standard but it gets very poor exposure by the GAA. The media dont give it much a spin either. Something as fundamental as a website listing the squads of each college would be a big step forward.

The competition is a great standard but it gets very poor exposure by the GAA. The media dont give it much a spin either. Something as fundamental as a website listing the squads of each college would be a big step forward. All colleges have to submit their players prior to the tournament to Croke Park. Also the host college does a bit of a blurb about all the teams involved in the competition through a decent glossy program with a lot of info on the road to the finals weekend. Depends on what host college are holding the finals and how well set up their GAA club is. St. Mary's (the ranch) had a very good site up with all that info and full draw, results the day after games with reports etc a few years back. Sligo IT had a star-studded line up that wiped the field at the time. Pretty much half the Donegal senior team with a couple of Meath lads and the best Mayo under age had on offer. Then it was DCU to buy the cup with a Mortimer, Seanie Johnston, Munnelly and Brogan. A forward line up that would have been the envy of any intercounty senior team! The centenary year of their club after that UUJ imported a team with the backbone of that same Sligo team and cruised through the field. Looking like they are going for it again! ;) And last year Cork Co Board obviously had a master plan to feed their young fellas like stallfed bullocks over the winter (Gould et al) and keep them together to play in CIT, train for county and then come Summer, scare the bejaysus out of the country til their auld enemy, Kerry, got them on hollowed ground and... WIPEOUT! Re: the Nordy counties & Unis in general, they pack college teams with ALL their best minor and U-21 players to keep them local for training purposes. Hence big involvement of high profile managers like McCartin @ QUB. Mickey Harte etc. What was born in Ulster, stays in Ulster!! I don't think Croker give it much coverage especially as AIB pump a lot in terms of TV advertising promotion and sponsorship on the localness of the GAA - "I kicked a hundred points, but she made a trillion hang sangwiches etc etc" Would be nice to see a market here. Don't know who the people itk are, but surely there's an Indie bookie out there would take a punt or two??? |
