Mine for today:
12.00 Our Nana Rose gained 3 wins and a second from her 6 flat runs since August and all 3 wins came on soft or heavy ground. She is rated 74 on the level. She was a good 2nd on her hurdling debut in a 2m Gowran maiden hurdle. The winner Doctor Deejay has already shown good form in two starts over hurdles and looks a nice prospect. The front two were clear of the 3rd and 4th who also had previous hurdling experience. She should improve plenty for her first start over hurdles and be good enough to win this. Evs Hills/VC 12.35 Taipers ran her best race to date in a 2m2f bumper here at Fairyhouse when second to Roberta Goldback in December 08. She gained her bumper win at the sixth time of asking when landing a 2m Cork bumper on soft to heavy in April, the form of which has worked out quite well. She has shown that she acts on testing ground and the booking of Davy Russell is interesting for her hurdling debut. 13/8 VC 1.05 French Riviera (each way) ran well for a long way in a grade 2 juvenile hurdle here in February on soft ground before falling at the last. He ran well to take 4th in a 2m Punchestown hurdle on heavy on his next hurdles start, at the Festival. He was disappointing on his first two runs this season but the ground was probably plenty fast enough for him on those two occasions. He was in the process of running a very big race in a 2M Cork handicap hurdle last time before falling 2 out. He moving up behind the leaders on the inside and may well have played a big hand in the finish but for falling. He races off the same mark of 98 and on todays softer ground he might go close for Denis Cullen whose 4 runners in the last fortnight have produced 2 winners and a third. One of those winners came here and was his first runner at the track. 3.25 Sizing Mexico for Henry De Bromhead who has won with 3 of 12 bumpers here. He won by 12 lengths in pt to pt 20 days ago and with Nina Carberry booked to ride looks a very likely winner. 11/10 Hills |

For what its worth lads, one of my best mates had breakfast with JP this morning and he told him to back Smoking Aces. He said it was his best chance of a winner the weekend. Best chance doesnt equal certainty, I havent gone too mad, still though not every day you get a tip from the man himself, had a fair bet in total around the shops.

Unlucky with French Riviera (I was a backer also) - seemed certain to take a hand in the finish

I know Distant View thought he was a dog but I feel sorry for French Riviera, horrible fall.

So if distant view didnt think he was a dog you would have felt even more sorrow,is that what that post is supposed to mean.

Just a handy crowd. Plenty of room to move round. Restaurant prices reasonable. Race 1) The good thing Our Nana Rose (11/8) dots up. Race 2) Royal Chukka (11/2). Quietly backed in from 7/1 stayed on well. Gloonan Hill (7/4f). Well backed seemed to go lame on the turn in. Was ok as it turned out. Stayed on for 3rd. Race 3) Steviemac (2/1f) (7/2 AM). Would have won even easier if didn't hit the front too soon. Has a habit of stopping when in front. The Quiet Enforcer (11/2). The morning gamble ran a game 2nd. Race 4) Farringdon (4/1) Another well backed winner for the Prunella Dobbs stable. Smoking Aces (8/11f) was a lucky 2nd as Fen Game was eased down before the line resulting in a 5 day ban for his jockey. Some bookies were keen to lay this jolly who has a habit of being a difficult ride. Race 5) Clan Tara (8/11f). Another well backed jolly. Davy Russell was at his majestic best on this hold up type horse. Hit the front late enough as class won out. Race 6) Lilywhitedancer (4/1) Another well backed winner. David Casey couldn't have an easier winner to get back into the winners enclosure. Native Clan (9/4f) well backed was an honourable 2nd. Race 7) Sizing Mexico (1/1f) Another well backed jolly, in from 6/4. Stood out in the parade ring. The first two pulled well clear of the 3rd home but the fav needed a strong drive off Nina to see off the runner up. Kings County Star (3/1) The less said the better about the whole episode. Lessons must be learnt. Star of the Day: Lilywhitedancer. A winners of one over the xmas would seem a formality. A winner in Waiting: Toor Brook Honours for the James Gerard Kelly stable will surely step up to the mark in a bumper shortly. Maybe back here on New Years Day. And finally : The Kierans family have what used to be sponsored by Tipperary Water the 2010 calendar on sale after most meetings esp in their locality. The photographs are brilliant. December being best imo with a marvellous shot of the runners in the foreground and the magnificent Cork grandstand in the background. Easter time I reckon. |
