dick francis stuff, but when are connections going to realise that there is no value to even try and back a horse in the morning unless you've got into 2 or 3 big whales.
Report punkha1 December 12, 2009 5:36 PM GMT
Sure didnt the same happen yesterday with that horse you were involved with?
Report crouchingtiger1 December 12, 2009 5:41 PM GMT
yes mate...however cat was out of the bag with betfair overnight (culprit yet to be identified) however we did have on outlet we knew we were going to get a fair bet from but to be honest i'd have much preferred to wait until the show
Report punkha1 December 12, 2009 5:47 PM GMT
Yeah i noticed the money matched that night and knew it was one to watch the next day.
In fairness it only takes one greedy clown only worried about getting his couple of hundred matched and the price is ruined.
As someone of here said before if these guys are as quick in bed god help their women!
Report timberman December 12, 2009 6:03 PM GMT
pat mustard normally likes marking cards the night before for a few quid....
Report crouchingtiger1 December 12, 2009 6:06 PM GMT
the annoying thing is whoever it was got about 80quid averaging 12s - we'd have bet him a 12 hundred to one to keep his mouth shut....ten years ago you'd have been getting 16/1 on the show and be able to get on...
Report observerirl December 12, 2009 6:47 PM GMT
tiger, please explain to the rest of us on here what you mean by getting into two or three big whales. tia.
Report redbait December 12, 2009 6:59 PM GMT
I presume he means getting a large-staking mug punter that can get big sums on at will to have a bet on his behalf. Keep up.
Report observerirl December 12, 2009 7:08 PM GMT
Frankly redbait I knew exactly what he meant but I wanted clarification directly from the horses mouth. Whales as I'm sure you know are becoming extinct to a certain extent and thats one primary reason that the on course market here has collapsed in the last 2 years. Clearly bookies are reliant on whales to keep their operations going as such and once the whale disappears the bokmaker dies at least those with little business acumen.
Report crouchingtiger1 December 12, 2009 7:24 PM GMT
observerirl i've read ur post three times and i'm sorry but i've no idea the point you're trying to make, can you clarify it for me?
Report observerirl December 12, 2009 7:29 PM GMT
I'm saying its a bit rich bookmakers taking large staking mug punters to the cleaners and then expecting them to hellp out as and when they have a touch organised
Report crouchingtiger1 December 12, 2009 7:31 PM GMT
ahhhh ok, i'm not a bookmaker..but i see where u're coming from (eventually)
Report observerirl December 12, 2009 7:33 PM GMT
Indeed, but what do you think about that practice? And have you left the Great Firm?
Report crouchingtiger1 December 12, 2009 7:37 PM GMT
yes i've left.
Regarding getting on what else are you supposed to do? Every one knows how difficult it is to get on so you use whatever weapons you have in your armourary. I am of course talking from a personal perspective and these views aren't the views of the firm I used to work for.
Report observerirl December 12, 2009 7:44 PM GMT
Fair enough so. Good Luck in your future endeavours. My emotions were stirred by the way most bookmakers rape high staking compulsive punters and then play them along as they choose.
Report crouchingtiger1 December 12, 2009 7:57 PM GMT
cheers, be stacking shelves in the local supermarket if things don't improve!
Report soapp December 14, 2009 5:09 PM GMT
observerirl, it's a business after all. It's dog eat dog out there. The shark punters are happy to relieve the chains a few bob any way they can. So I suppose the compulsive ones have to be relieved if they are foolish enough to pat with their few bob.

The whole episode at Fairyhouse on Saturday left a very sour note. Hopefully lessons will be learned all round.

Unfortuneately the word got round to the bookies early that this one was beating Sublimity on the gallops, winning schooling bumpers with aplomb etc etc. Whether this was true or not, the bookies cards were well marked and no fancy prices materialised.
