I note that he left the judges alone again the poor things. Earning up to 330k some of the old farts - ah sure what about it we can screw the low paid cleaners in the offices. I believe Lenehan's missus is a judge herself. I wonder will she offier to take a voluntary pay cut to support her husband's efforts to return the country to growth?

He had no option Ger. Judiciary salaries cannot be changed downward under legislation.
I could be wrong about that but was sure i read it in run up to budget.
Seems crazy if its true.

Does this make any real difference in the general scheme of things, its the judicial system that has failed. You can almost walk away scot free after comitting a serious crime and then you see where a feller gets 3 months for washing his hole in a fountain down in Cork.

It's the small detail that matters if an inclusive society is to be built. He could have just cut their salaries and let them sue or have a referendum to change the constitution. But they can give the fingers to the rest of us instead. They have no moral authority.

Under the legislation/constitution the judges remuneration cant be revised downwards in order to protect their indepence.

however ger he could have said in light of the current economic conditions he would make a reduction. if they were brave enough the judges could take a case and would win but to the outrage of the public.

but alas the govt have no balls.
