12.50 - Sorceror ew
Very little between him and An Cathaoir Mor, think he'll come on loads for that run, led most of the way only to tire close home, but rallied again to nearly peg back ACM for 2nd. Think Captain Cee Bee won't like the ground, plus could not back him after the lay off. Not happy to back Zaarito after a fall. 1.20 - Ebadiyan Can't be backing O'Grady's on current stable form, think Arabella Boy wants further, but could be dangerous if Ebadiyan fails to fire. Ebadiyan looked to be very short of fitness lto, but was only 4lenths or so off Go Native, conditions will suit and should be much fitter for this. 3.20 - Don't Panic Not a lot to go on here form wise, DP was a good winner of a bumper on soft, should be a decent price with Mullins and Meade both having runners. Have to say I'm fairly disappointed by a few of the prices around today:
12.20 Gates Of Rome won a 3 mile pt to pt in April beating subsequent winner Turtle Tim by 2L into second. He made a very promising start to his hurdling career when giving Qualviro a super race in a 2m4f Punchestown maiden hurdle. He travelled well throughout and challenged going to the last but fluffed his jump somewhat which gave Qualviro the advantage and with the rail to aid him Qualviro was able to hold off Gates Of Rome by ¾ length. Those two pulled 6 lengths clear of the rest and the 3rd and 4th both boosted the form by finishing runners-up in a decent Punchestown maiden hurdle since. Davy Russell is a positive jockey booking, he is 13 from 48 (27% +13.26) on Colm Murphy hurdlers. Empire Theatre has to be respected but 3/1 SJ about Gates Of Rome looks better value. 12.50 marks the return of 2008 Supreme Novices winner Captain Cee Bee after a layoff of over 600 days. Doesnt look betting material as they wont be giving it everything today and hell surely come on plenty for the run. On their last running there wont be much between Sorceror and An Cathaoir Mor but I think Zaarito is probably the best bet in this. He won a bumper here on soft to heavy and usually comes on for his first run of the season, having won second time out the last 2 seasons. He was still going okay when coming down 2 out on his chasing debut last time out and todays heavy ground will be to his liking. 5/2 PP 1.50 Will Jamie Run looks to hold a serious chance today in this 2m4f handicap chase. He has been off the track for the best part of 9 months but has shown that he is a horse who goes particularly well fresh, his record after a lay-off of 3 or more months is 211 (2-1-3). And heavy ground will be no problem considering that he has finished in the first two 8 times and soft or heavy has been in the going description on 7 of those 8 occasions. He joined the Paul Stafford yard from Stephens Mahons stable in 2008. He had not run for 410 days before making a winning start for his new trainer when he landed a 2m5f Fairyhouse handicap chase off 94 on heavy ground in February. He followed that win up by winning a 2m4f Clonmel handicap chase in comfortable fashion by 9 lengths on soft ground. He was not disgraced when well beaten by Bella Mana Mou in a 3m Navan handicap chase off 117 last time out. Bella Mana Mou was clearly very well in that day and the form of those in behind looks good, 3rd Lochan Lacha won off 1lb higher next time out. 4th Oscar Time was 1 length up jumping the last in a grade 2 novice chase when falling on next start. 5th Mustangsallyrally was placed on next two outings while other 5th Rock Diplomat was runner-up in a competitive handicap chase at the Punchestown Festival off 2lbs lower on his most recent start. Paul Stafford and Conor Maxwell do really well together with chasers (4 from 12 in the past 5 seasons, profit of 54.00). Will Jamie Run has only gone up 2lbs for his last run and considering how well he runs fresh he must have a very good chance on suitable heavy ground over his best trip of 2M 4F. 9/2 Tote-sport/Cor-al 2.20 Cool Quest has really shown her best form since dropping back to 2 miles from 2½. She was placed in a 2m Wexford handicap hurdle on her first start of the season and showed significant improvement to win by 11 lengths last time out in a 2m Fairyhouse handicap hurdle on heavy off 85 last time out. The form of that win has been boosted by the 3rd Nans Best finishing 2nd off 2lbs higher next time and then winning off another 3lbs higher on most recent start. Conditions should suit Cool Quest today and I fancy him to defy the 12lb weight rise in suitable conditions. Terence OBrien has had 1 runner in the last 2 weeks, a 25/1 winner ridden by Kevin Coleman. 5/1 B365 |

Down, he probably has that one isolated!!
The Racing Post preview for the bumper really was the pits imo. He didn't even have the temerity to give a one liner to Meade's animal. OK Nina wasn't down for it but it wouldn't have taken more than a cursory glance to realise that it was ridden by the Owner's son. Also I believe it was starting to get involved last time when it came down. |

A personal review. (Wasn't there)
Race 1) Little Barney (7/2) 9/1 on here earlier in the day. Great gamble. A E Lynch in dynamic form. Empire Theatre ( steady 2/1F) never threatned. Race 2) Captain Cee Bee (4/1) Big drifter on here 8/1 plus. Class told as he just beat flattering fav Zarritto (5/2J). Race 3) Torphichen (5/1) Big drifter on here. 7/2 early doors. Bolts in. Eddie O'Grady being so out of form probably accounted for the drift but sometimes the odd one wins. Ebadiyan (1/1F) Well backed jolly. 2/1 early doors only 3rd. Race 4) Plaisir d'Estruval (7/2) 6/1 earlier in the day. Great gamble. I saw someone looking for a grand at 7.2. Someone then put in 50 at 7. BF punters were going 11/2 best then. Davy Russell can be real good waiting late. (A reminder of his P/P days). He gave this a peach of a ride. A stone rise in the weights awaits. Nice to see Moore can still lay them out. Raven's Run (steady 9/4f) never threatned for the Dunguib connections. Race 5) Fivestar Alstars (20/1). A rag. Just held Carberry on Eliot's Hearthstead Dream. I remember backing him at this price one day in Listowel when he won on the level. Cool Quest (steady 4/1F) never threatened. Once again Compelled (big drifter) flattered to deceive. Race 6) Mighty Bob (9/1) Another gamble landed. Much higher earlier. This one is trained by G Farrell of The Brock Inn ( North Co Dublin) fame. Many is the day I remember backing a course specialist of his in Bellewstown and collecting. Borolee (11/2f) a right gamble came a cropper early for Liz Doyle/Flanagan. I read Tony Martin's stable preview in The Irish Field recently. Jockeys. The best available, Ruby if I can get him. Liz remember when the money is down a job jockey is needed to deliver! Race 7) Thegreat Johnbrowne (5/4F) Another gamble landed. Won well from drifter Some Target. Justin O'Hanlon had the temerity not to even give this one a mention in his Racing Post preview. Not good enough I say. |
