Feel this is a mistake. Big step up for sexton!

You have to blood in a proper second out half in high pressure games before the real competitions i.e. Six Nations and World Cup. O'Gara won't be there forever and always a chance he could be injured for Six Nations and it wouldn't be good if Sexton's only start for Ireland was against Fiji at RDS. It might mean they don't win this match but this is not the long term target.

To be fair, won't it be lovely not having to watch O'Gara get steamrolled by the opposition #8 in every game. The big boys must think its Xmas every time ROG lines up to tackle them.

The fact that Irelands odds contracted when the team was announced tells you all you need to know about the perceived merits of both players.
Report The Bhoys November 27, 2009 3:08 PM GMT
wat does contracted mean?
Report KK 05 November 27, 2009 3:14 PM GMT
Perceived being the important word.
Report The Bhoys November 27, 2009 3:15 PM GMT
seriously did the odds shorten or lenghtin after sexton was named?
Report BJG November 27, 2009 3:16 PM GMT
Why would they lengthen iyo?
Report BJG November 27, 2009 3:16 PM GMT
And why is it a mistake to play Sexton iyo?
Report The Bhoys November 27, 2009 3:19 PM GMT
Well how often do we get the chance to play the world champs. Best team a must imo and ogaras the best no 10
Report BJG November 27, 2009 3:24 PM GMT
On current form? No he's not?
Report BJG November 27, 2009 3:25 PM GMT
imo ;)

Id worry that Sextons confidence will be too high after next week and he could make some bad mistakes and/or get dumped on his head by the far superior opposition he is facing at the weekend.
Report irishlad November 27, 2009 4:53 PM GMT
Sexton has to be given the chance. On current form he is the better player and we need someone to fill the role going forward as RoG is getting any younger.

ROG had a poor lions against Springboks

whether sexton has a shocker tomorrow or not

kidney deserves credit for taking and making the right decision- it would of been easy to be a steady eddie and pick the norm

but risk deserves reward and wins you grand slams
playing it safe all the time might get you a trple crown and an odd SH scalp

kidney has now proven to be the right man to guide us to our next world cup as challengers

not to rain on our grand slam, but the next few years will be tougher with france getting back to what they do best, scotland will beat us at least once in next 4 years, wales will find the right game again, prob in 2012 after world cup though and england cant stay cr ap forever

kidney needs to have a choice at fly half, he will also need to find a replacement/alternative for o connell soon
