... in the Dublin area .. I know they have events in the Goat and Submarine bars.

For charity. Has anybody any experience in this business ... or does somebody run these as a business / package?

I am thinking particularly of the technology and race preview clips ... this seems to be the biggest problem for a newbie event organiser.

Any feedback much appreciated. Thanks.

I think the one in the Goat was run in the Stillorgan Park last year.

There are definitely a few lads that have organised them, who post on here.

The Submarine Preview is dreadful.

try and not have too many of the gravy-train hitchers i.e. most of the jockeys and trainers that do the rounds on these nights. Very few are worth listening too. One decent trainer and same jockey would do fine. Other than that try to make sure you have a number of full-time punters on your panel and advertise them as such. Don't bother with a bookmakers rep unless your going to get some decent value off them and if so make it is sorted beforehand so that you can also advertise that. That should give a varied and interesting panel and be different to the other dross that can be usually relied upon at your typical preview night.

The Submarine one is not that bad, the problem is keeping everybody at all ears for the night rather than having them standing at the bar and making it hard to hear what the panel are saying!
The two important aspects to a good preview night are the people on the panel and the location. The rest will work itself out!

May sound simple, but you need relevant trainers & jocks on the panel, no point having a trainer with no runners, or a jockey with one mount on the panel.

A good MC, a local bookies rep(they usually help sponsor the event), a journalist/pundit, and 3-4 made up of trainers/jockeys. Depends on the venue etc.

i find these events are extemely boring now and have run their course. i gave up going to them after one in ferns a few years ago when mccoy fitzgerald and ivan yates were advertised but didnt show up and were replaced by colm o rourke footballer, richard phillips trainer with no runners at cheltenham and someone else i cant remember.
to make it worse thay always had jim bolger flat trainer as mc and hes not the most likeable of people.

The most boring events you will attend, rather go to a novena.A load of so called experts waffling on. Watch as much racing as you can and forget the preview nights.

the one I go to can get a bit tiring but a pile of winners have being given from the panel over the last few yrs.

The Waterford preview has gone from strength to strength.Davy Russell offers plenty of strong opinions -not always correc but definitely interesting.Nick Luck was the star of the show this year -tipped Punjabi for the Champion and made VPU his bismarck in the Ryanair.

I think these nights are more about fundraising, having a few drinks and a chat about the racing with a few like minded people. If you go expecting to pick up priceless bits of info I think you will come home disappointed.

Great stuff lads - Thanks.

yeah - this would be more fundraising than anybody expecting great info ... but I would still like it to be a great event ... entertainment or info-wise.
