Fearnwood Girl has ground to make up on Sword Fish from their first meeting over hurdles and had a lot of ground to make up with Our Nana Rose from their meeting on the flat! However i went down in my notebook as a massive eyecatcher fto over hurdles @ a massive price wen staying on well in the latter stages- worth an e/w play

Must be big question marks over Darceys Dancer handling the gound here imo so i think it lies between For The Staff and Judge Roy Bean, with preference for Judge Roy Bean who has won well last 2 times on very testing ground with The Hurl who reopposes tomorrow easily disposed of last time
1.30
Cadspeed was very disappointing last time when goin off odds on fav and bein well beaten- that was his first run since March so worth another chance here hoping that run has brought him on- on ground he will love, having hosed up in 2 bumpers on very testing ground, should be the one to beat here
2.05
With ground in its favour, an e/w chance is taken with Sun Tzu here- last 2 runs have been less than inspiring but they have been on good ground- before that had 3 runs on heavy, finishin 5th, 3rd and winning a maiden hurdle at Thurles, when staying on very well wen challenged
2.35
Operation Houdini/Treacle and Paddy Pub all in very good form here but also climbing in the weights as a result- one i think has a squeak e/w at a big price is Bella Mana Mou- will love the ground having won very easily on heavy twice- was well beaten behind Seigemaster last time but that was her 1st run since May so hopefully that run will have put her spot on for a big run in this
3.05
A lot of eyes will be focused on Psycho and Sports Line on their chase debuts so one that mite offer an e/w bet to nothing is Kimberlite King. Was far from disgraced on his first run over fences when fourth behind Osana and Roberto Goldback- jumpin needs to be a bit slicker here but with the experience under his belt must prove tough to keep out of the places
3.35
Probably the race of the day here imo with a lot of good winners takin each other on. For Bill won easily at Tipp in her 1st bumper but had to battle hard to win last time, ground should nt be a problem- John Kiely has 2 runners here, both impressive first time out winners with preference for Araucaria out of the 2 with race fitness on side. But the one i like in this is Killultagh Queen for the Willie and Patrick Mullins combination- travelled up beautifully on heavy ground last time and wen let go absolutely sprinted away from her field- with ground in her favour, gonna be very tough to beat
Goin with the proven very soft ground performers tomorrow - Lets just hope its nt under water by morning time ;)
People around the area seemed optimistic earlier today. The high winds could prove to be a bigger issue than the rain at this rate. Navan can take plenty of rain but I am not sure exactly how saturated it was today.

Just been on the phone to someone there, hasnt rained for the last 3 hours or so, but gale force winds. He said 50/50 if it goes ahead or not. Its a fair drive from my place and an early start I'll probably leave it :(

Navan is very exposed and that is why the winds must be a big concern. The rain so far would not bother me and the winds would be helping that anyway if the rain does not hammer down.

A stormy day ahead (in more ways than one) with widespread gales and severe gusts of about 130km/h. Showery outbreaks of rain also, heavy and possibly thundery at times BUT at least the open fire in the bar under the stand is already glowing !

have good cut on For Bill, is proven in a battle, picked up when challenged and will come on for her run, mullins horse looks impressive but has beaten nothing.
It be good to see her win to give the yard a boost as the trainer Mike Winters father has just passed away, RIP

Unbelievable crowd there despite the weather. Couldn't move in the restaurant or bars that easy.
32 bookies, not a great number. John Stuart was a surprising absentee.
Weather was ok. Heavy showers didn't last long at all until after racing when there was a torrential shower.
Race 1) Didn't get to see it or hear it. But a nice one for the books getting the Christy Roche hotpot Sword Fish turned over by a rag from the Mick Halford stable Shanrod.
Race 2) My nap of the day Judge Roy Bean (2/5) well and truly chinned by by the Hurl (over 200k as a 3 yr old). Eddie O'Grady said it was the ground that beat it.
Race 3) Another rag Bostons Angel (A Robbie Power double) came out of the pack to chin Cadspeed who I thought was the value at 7/4. Th Carberry ridden jolly Perfect Smile (6/4) had the race won when he stumbled at the 2nd last.
Race 4) Morning Steamer Thirsty Tommy (50/1 to 12/1) was the first tip I got going in. Took 33/1 on the X's. Owned by a syndicate from Swords ran a great race to finish 3rd. A mistake a the 3rd last didn't help. Market leader Bobs Display 9/2 in the morning 3/1 on track with young Kearney was well taken into 5/2 never showed. Danny's Vic well mentioned by Alan Sweetman who said his proven stamina over 3 miles woud come in handy which it sure did.
Race 5) A very open Troytown Chase proved very eventful with plenty of casualties. The bookies who were cleaning up were very stingy with their odds. The X'S were going well over a point longer on the fancied ones. Beroni (9/1 into 7/1) snuck in under the radar. Most having been put off as Ruby Walsh chose the other Mullins horse.
Race 6) The whisper of the day Sports Line (6/4 into 5/6) made all. He frightened the life out of me at the 3rd last with a bad mistake. I did well to get 11/10 as all odds dried up so quick.
Race 7) Unbeaten For Bill (steady 3/1) turned in an impressive performance to hit the layers again although Willie Mullins Killultagh Queen (steady 6/4) got them a few pounds back. This one never threatened. A a jolly punter I had to back For Bill in the without market. The layers went (1/1) but for the first time ever I had a bet on the X's in the without fav market. 6/4 freely available to small money.
Well done to all at Navan for getting through a trying day. Also hats off for not robbing their customers with only 15 admission. I got lucky as an owner asked me was I paying in and I said yes. He was heading in with the missus. I think Owners can get four in when they have a runner.
Finally I would recommend all to buy The Injured Jockeys Calendar. Some of the jockeys were out selling it after racing.
And of course everyone got free indos as is standard after Sunday racing. So the lads in my local were singing as I brought a half a dozen back for them!!

Carberry trying to look like he has a double handful on a meade horse and it doesn`t win. How long are you watching racing? That yoke was just about to find jack #hit when it pecked.

Why is it well done to Navan for only charging 15 in?
It has been that price at jumps meetings for the past few years.
I guess it is acceptable at decent meetings like this, but when we see the likes of Fairyhouse charge the same in at some very average meetings, it is ridiculous.

This is Navan's flagship meeting of the year. The place was absolutely packed to the rafters, yet they only charged the standard charge. Earlier this season they only charged a tenner to a moderate meeting.
Fairyhouse charge 20 in on Sunday.
Gaway charged 30 during the summer for Wed/Thurs.
Leopardstown at Christmas and the Punchestown festival charge very high admission prices too.

I think from memory that Galway was either 35 or 40 this year plus a car parking charge which was a disgrace. This is a meeting whichhas a couple of decent races and the rest is garbage but it's standing as racing's social event of the year means that they can rip patrons off at their leisure.
15 should be max charge other than at festivals, although I acknowledge that Navan staged a good card at the weekend. Even festivals should reduce charges to acknowledge the different circumstances that face the racing public in 2009 and next year.
Leopardstown have went some way to doing this by removing the reserved enclosure (although they did put up standard admission). Maybe Punchestown will do the same.
As for Galway...it is not just the famous tent that it was/is wrong with the place.
