Robbie handled it about 6 times in that match and protested false innocence each time
At least 4 of those times he was being fouled by the defender and could avoid arm contact with the ball. Thats what he was protesting about numbskull

I'm a bit surprised that no-one has mentioned that Gallas also knew that Henry had handled the ball. I think Henry handled the ball the 2nd time as he reckoned the 1st one was spotted & he might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb. Then Gallas & Henry celebrated like lunatics released from an asylum. I think it was this outrageous bluff that convinced the officials that nothing untoward had happened. I'm sure other French players knew it was a handball but the OTT celebrations were so perfectly cheographed the linesman in particular was swayed. I don't know why the Irish players kicked off. Trap should have instructed them not to kick off. This would have put pressure on the ref to ask Henry. If he then denied it, well it would be even more messy.

Agree Trent . It all happened so quickly . Proof that in major games all vital decisions should be subject to review / challenge . Had there been the equivalent of a "challenge" as in tennis , Ireland might still be in the World Cup.
Hugh McIlvanny tears Henry to shreds in yesterdays Times , plus slating the head in the sand administrators who will not allow video technology to "invade" their world --methinks they are worried it might render them superfluous .

Trent, the short answer is that the Irish players kicked off because **ing and getting away with it, is considered acceptable by them and their fellow professionals. That has been made abundantly clear in their various comments and actions since the end of the game. Most football fans think the same and demonstrate this by clicking turnstiles to support this **s charter every weekend of the season.

reb, That's a very good point. What upset me most about it was the number of former & current professionals who all said they would do the same, to name names, Ronnie Whelan, Graeme Souness, Damien Duff, Richard Dunne... I'm sure there are more. There is something very wrong with this sport if those who have played it so well @ the highest level all think it would be okay for one of our guys to do it. If it's wrong for Henry to do it, it's wrong for Robbie Keane et al to do it. I don't see video technology being introduced anytime soon. It's not as if the technology has been invented last spring, it has been around for decades. Sepp Blatter in 2006 said that video technology would not be introduced whilst he is president. I don't believe there is a willingness at the highest club & international level to have video technology. The arbitrary nature of ref's decisions tend to suit the bigger clubs & associations as these generally go their way & an evidentiary review of these decisions would lead to greater fairness which wouldn't suit the superpowers.
It's not as if it would cost a whole load of money. On the contrary the electronics manufacturers would most like pay huge money to provide the technology & sponsor the review process.
