These things happen in football and in the end they generally balance out, reaction is way over the top and speaking as Irish person its actually getting embarrassing. For one example what about the Georgia game in Croke Pk. a similar situation insofar as you had a team playing out of their skins to give their nation a boost(their situation a lot more serious and needy than ours) yet they were robbed of victory by a bizzare penalty decision that was verified by replays to be totally incorrect. We took our goal that otherwise never looked like coming and added another against a clearly deflated team,took the vitally important 3 points that night and moved on, saying thats football, tough luck Georgia . A defeat at that stage of qualifing and we might not have been there last night. Some might say its not a like for like example but its not that far off and it highlights the difference in reaction from people to events depending on which way they fall for them.

We were robbed. FIFA got what they wanted. The Irish are more than entitled to moan all they want.

Having a good moan about a game is part and parcel of sport and probably part of the enjoyment. But when you have top level politicians getting involved, it dominating the news and current affairs programs as well its getting over the top.
