Pity the guy turned out to be a looper. If he'd stopped after secs, Pat would have had to deal with the question. Jack O'Connor got slaughtered for last week's effort, and Pat got off scot free then as well. He is the sort of fat cat guy whose salary needs cutting. It is a genuine issue.

That was great. The partying shot about going off to sue a woman about a field has to be one of the greatest lines ever.
I'd vote for him. He's can't be any worse than the lot in Kildare Street already.

there was a women who was in audience last night speaking on newstalk earlier saying the guy was in a pre assigned seat, with all the invited audience... the general public fill in the other seats. She spoke about the reaction of the producers/camera men/ Pat Kenny etc..... she felt it was way too calm , almost as if it was expected. She sort of suggested he was a plant to deflect from the issue, allowing Hanifin to get away lightly on a fairly emotive topic.

When Kenny was interupted on late late,(with Eurostar judges), all he could say was the barneyism, thak u very much. He reverted to type again last night. Deffo not a plant

the guy has been on disability benefit for "a number of years". what really needs to be tackeled is social welfare fraud, ie this guy, not people who turn up for work every day

Kenny very comfortable last night talking to Ms Hanaffin about cuts in social welfare and pay . Didnt interupt her or challange her once . It was a real love in unlike the way he went for Jack O Connor last week .

Sad really to have to listen to this nut on radio again this morning.
Seems as if he is fit enough to preach about being born again and go on tv to rant at Kenny, but is still claiming disability. At least Kenny does a days work, whilst some may say he is overpaid, at least he contributes to the state coffers unlike this psychotic leach.
Nutter should be locked up.

Diamond comment Joe. The man obviously gets his kicks out of this with only a vague plaform of logic behind him.....he was right about RTE's top brass being overpaid but he wasnt making a reasoned argument he was foaming at the mouth and most definitely got some sort of kick out of it. If you listened to him on D'Arcy today you would worry about leaving this fella alone with your family. Quite clearly unwell and what he did last night probably wasnt good for him. Ray shouldnt have put him on the radio, and he definitely shouldnt have strung him along for so long once he more or less admitted he had mental issues.

I don't mind what Ray D'arcy is paid as he is paid by a commercial enterprise that decides that is what he is worth x. On the otherhand, Kenny & other RTE presenters get a huge chunk of taxpayers money & divvy it up between themselves. To make matters worse we have the most stupid ads about how the tv license inspectors have heard all the excuses. The only one that seems to work is 'I'm a FF TD & I'm not going to pay the 2.4m I owe you, you're only getting half of it.' For 160 we get dreadful programming like 'Republic of Telly', 'Anonymous', 'The Panel', tedious Ger Canning commentary, the Seoige sisters (no matter what Rte try to do with them it won't work, too good looking for ugly women who feel uncomfortable & too sexless for real men to enjoy), error littered sports reporting, 'Brides of Franc', the pox of George Hamilton chicken counting & anything to do with Gerry Ryan.
It's a disgrace.
I'm off to sue an old woman over a field. I might get a million pounds.

RTEs total income is 50% licence 50% advertising so proclaiming the tax payer has some right to demand who gets paid what is a bit OTT imho. Plenty of companies see positives in Kenny, Tubridy, Duffy etc... like popularity, brand name etc that not all may agree with, but being in reality a semi state company, i see no reason to moralise on what they should be paid. All people are paid the maximum they can get and what their employer is wiling to pay.
Personally i think Kenny is much better value than plenty in Montrose. Just my opinion though.

Diamond Joe, Not sure where you get your figures from. In their most recent published a/cs RTE stated they got 157 from advertising & 7m in sponsorship. They got 195m in licence fee money & they get a government grant of approx 60m each year so income from the taxpayer is almost double that of advertising/program sponsorship. Maybe the reduction in Mr Kenny's salary ie from 900k to 600k (approx 33%) reflects the balance between their commercial/taxpayer revenue sources.

Trent, i meant on average not just this year. As you know advertising revenue can be quite volatile during poor economic times and profitable during boom periods.
Obviously my figures were rough, but on average accurate. Still my point was more that tax payers have little justification to demand a reduction in any rte presenters wages.

Diamond Joe, The advertising revenue I quoted was for 2006 which was the height of the boom (it was at it's 'boomiest'!) Proportionally advertising revenue would have been at it's highest in those figures. Whenever RTE quoted the balance between advertising revenue/licence fees they never pointed out that they also get a huge government grant. The 50:50 stat is misleading.
Now I'm off to sue a woman over a field, I might get a million pounds!
