The three national executive officers of the States largest union, Siptu, each earned €124,895 in 2008. They are general president Jack OConnor, vice-president Brendan Hayes, and general secretary Joe OFlynn.

He is very poor.

Wiki As of 2008, Chomsky has taught at MIT continuously for 53 years.

Chomsky has received death threats because of his criticisms of US foreign policy. He was also on a list of planned targets created by Theodore Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber; during the period that Kaczynski was at large, Chomsky had all of his mail checked for explosives. He states that he often receives undercover police protection, in particular while on the MIT campus, although he does not agree with the police protection.

He doesn't mind voicing his opinions!

Thank goodness the unions werent running the country forthe last 25 years. We'd have been in some mess.

Kenny should be ashamed of himself.

Still smarting from his much touted pay cut.

I'm a little bemused that union officials are afforded so much uncritical media airtime.
In essence unions promote greed (more money) & laziness (less work).
How can it be healthy for any society to have such a large number of the population advocating & promoting the principles of greed & laziness?

Watching Jack O'Connor last night must have been an embarrassment to the comrades in the Trade Union movement.

To think that this stuttering amadan was the best the Unions could come up with is to know all you need to know about the Unions, their members and their policies.

"I...I...I.....didn't say their would be no cuts. I..I...I said there would be no cuts in pay"
Watching him fidgeting after that line of drivel, hoping the earth would swallow him whole, was cringe inducing.

A shiny suit, an empty head and a beard. Job done. €120,000 p / a.

Get rid of the unions. ruination of any country. Protecting alot of people who do nothing and still get paid.

A few friends of mine in the construction game now wished they were in a union and had someone to fight their corner.
The went in to the local dole office to find out their big developer boss trousered their prsi and pension contributions.

GANT007,
That's not a union issue. What could the union do for them?
That's a criminal matter & should be dealt with by the courts.
That employer should be fined (if he has an estate) & put in jail.
The union wouldn't have been aware that he was pocketing the PRSI/pension contributions & would now tell them there is nothing the union can do as it is a criminal matter.

Good to see one of 'the Beards' make a right cnut of himself on live tv. Fair play to Pat for not tolerating his cheap gibe.
This country is heading for ruin if Cowen does not stand up to the unions. He has to stick by his guns in the budget. House prices are back at 2003 levels. The tax-take is back at 2003 levels. Private sector pay is heading back to 2003 levels. Public sector pay is running at about 40% beyond 2003 levels. This budget not going half far enough but a tiny step in the right direction.
Let them strike - every day of the strike will save the country between 100 and 200M in unpaid wages. The more days they strike, the less deficit we will have this year.

Trent,
I realise it is a criminal matter and a common one at that.
Some of the developers employees were in a union and they werent ripped off after the union rep reported him previously.
