The 2.05 is a cracking race. Am a fan of all 4(ignoring the rag)!
Early thoughts..... siding with Voler La Vedette at the minute, giving the soft, possibly heavy ground.

Gonna have a good read of the form now.

Race 1) Dr Deejay to give doggie man Paul Hennessy a winner. This should improve from its debut.

Race 2) A weak Grade 3. Grangeclare Gold has the ability if she puts her mind to it.

Race 3) A welcome winner for Paul Carberry likely in what should be a stroll in the park for Go Native. Voler La Vedette will need a new jockey. Matt O'Connor picked up a collar bone injury a t Thurles today. Luska Lad was only 60% right the last day. Only the one hurdle run puts me right off it.

Race 4) A weak Maiden Hurdle best left alone.

Race 5 ) A stroll for Nicanor to give the Meade/Carberry alliance a double.

Race 6) A competitive chase. Trotsky battled well at Fairyhouse and can follow up for rookie trainer Paddy McKenna.

Race 7) Tornado Shay goes for a 3rd bumper win and should improve for his seasonal debut in Galway.

Still tryin to figure of this hurdle race.

There are 3 front runners, Ebadiyan, Luska Lad & Miss Hack, so should be a proper pace. Think Ebadiyan will need the run even though the stable is in decent form. Luska surely isn't good enough to win this at this stage of his career!!???

That leaves the big two.... On official ratings/weights Voler has 3lbs in hand. However I think both are better than thier current marks, just how much is the question?
Voler stays further and handles the ground, won the bumper on this day last year. The trainer won this with Fethard Lady a few years back, and has said that VLV is the best mare he's sat on!!!

Noel Meade has farmed this race, and Go Native looks as good as anything he's sent up north. Was visually very impressive winning the G2 on his seasonal bow, is a very quick horse, and a slick hurdler. Won on hvy fto last year, seems to be better on better, but does handle all goings.

Will wait until the morning to make a decision, but think i'm siding Go Native now.....
Report Prospero November 5, 2009 9:08 PM GMT
I suspect it was Flanagan, not Murphy, who said VLV was the best mare he has sat on.

Either way, she'll do me here. Showed something that she had never really done before LTO, a serious cruising speed, and on that evidence she won't have an problem dropping back in trip tomorrow especially on testing ground (which, incidentally, she's unbeaten on). The likely decent pace even though there's a small field should suit too.

Wouldn't be a fan of last year's Supreme form, none of those in behind Go Native have won a race of merit since, with the possible exception of Cappa Bleu. He might have won on testing ground, but GN's best form is on faster and he floundered on soft at Punchestown.
Report megabucks November 5, 2009 9:19 PM GMT
Twas Murphy alright Prospero, he's very bullish about this mare. You can't blame him either ,she has just kept on improving and in my opinion has more to come. The 11/4 in RP looked tasty but Powers are clearly ducking her with the measly 15/8 quote.
Report downallstar November 5, 2009 9:23 PM GMT
Propsero - could be right about that comment, its accredited to the trainer, but looks like the wors of the jockey, well spotted.

As for GN, i watched runs/wins at Punch/Naas again and he quickened nicely on bad ground. Not worried about his defeat at the Punch festival, was one of a few that showed the effects of Cheltenham.

It is a close call, and have already changed my mind a few times!
Report megabucks November 5, 2009 9:26 PM GMT
sharp minds indeed, good spot alright!
Report downallstar November 5, 2009 9:27 PM GMT

The Go Native/Nicanor double looks pretty solid to me!
Report downallstar November 5, 2009 9:30 PM GMT
Gonna watch the market re: Nicanor COM, agree with Norn though, Lurgan looks a solid ew bet here.

Ya was I'd say he had ridden her in May and said she had improved a lot since that run. Who will ride tomorrow, Geraghty?
Report Prospero November 5, 2009 9:35 PM GMT
Flanagan again I'd have thought.

John Hanlon would like to give Ruby Walsh a big-race success on his comeback from injury when he legs the Irish champion up on Luska Lad in the WKD Core Hurdle at Down Royal on Friday.

Walsh has been sidelined since Saturday when he hurt his foot and ankle in a fall from the ill-fated Sanglote at Ascot.

He partnered the five-year-old Luska Lad for the first time when the gelding made a successful debut over hurdles at Galway last month.

Luska Lad was one of last season's top bumper performers, winning four times and only suffering defeat at the hands of Dunguib and Sweeps Hill.

"Ruby has been out for a few days but I was talking to him yesterday morning and he wants to ride the horse. He was very happy with him in Galway and wants to keep the ride on him," said 'Shark' Hanlon.

"The horse is in great form but I think he'll improve a bit from his last run. I know we are upgrading him, but he's a good horse and he's entitled to take his chance.

"It's hard to win first time out over hurdles with any horse and he was very good. He couldn't have done it any better."

A five-strong field includes the Noel Meade-trained Go Native, winner of Cheltenham's Supreme Novices' Hurdle, and Colm Murphy's rapidly-improving mare Voler La Vedette, winner of five of her seven races to date.

Cashmans make Go Native their 4-6 favourite with Murphy's mare a 9-4 chance.

"He's got a good chance and he gets plenty of weight from Go Native," Hanlon went on.

"The one I fear the most is the mare of Colm Murphy's (Voler La Vedette). It's an interesting race."

Hanlon also runs Miss Hackenbush, who will be the outsider of the quintet.

"I am hoping to get a bit of black type with her," added the County Carlow trainer.

Meade also respects Voler La Vedette.

"It's a good race. There a couple of good horses in it - a nice mare of Colm Murphy's and Luska Lad is obviously one of the good novices about," said the County Meath trainer.

"Mine is in great form and I'm looking forward to it."

Murphy is hoping Voler La Vedette can cope with the step up in class.

"Touch wood, she seems good so please God we are hoping for a good run," said the County Wexford trainer.

"We'll know more after the run tomorrow, but hopefully she'll be up to the next step."

The line-up is completed by Oliver Brady's Ebadiyan, who was in the process of running a cracking race in the Triumph Hurdle before running out at the second-last flight.

1.05 - Not a race to get involved for me. Would be interested in two though, Sword Fish & Khan Tengri.

1.35 - Between the top 3 in the market, Golden Songbird looked a little short of fitness in the final 2f lto, should be sharper here, and has solid form lines. Think Premier Victory may struggle to give weight to GS and Ross Dara. Have sided with Ross Dara, she handles the going and gets a nice age for weight allowance.

2.05 - Have changed my mind again! :^0
Going for the mare, will def handle the going and gets 9lbs which may be the key here. Voler La Vedette's price too tempting.

2.35 - Two against the field Itdosnot Botherme - stable in fine form. & Little Barney - very solid bumper form.

3.05 - Looks a weak race overall, slight worry about Nicanor's fitness, and we've seen a few get beat fto. Lurgan looks the obvious ew selection.

GL.
Report Allduckornodinner November 6, 2009 9:18 AM GMT
Soapp thats a load of bull about Luska Lad only being 60% ready in Galway. I know hanlon said it after the race but I saw him with my own eyes and he looked plenty lean enough for this time of the year. I cant see him finding the improvement necessary to beat most of his rivals. Lay of the day for me

The connections of Lurgan and Billie Beg could have reasons to celebrate tonite. These brothers are both entitiled to come on enough for me for their first runs to get involved today.

Oliver Brady very bullish about his 1 in the 1.05, 25/1 :0

Could nt be fancyin it myself!

1.35 Golden Sunbird the bet of the day for me here, ran a good race last time after 6months off, should strip fitter for that run and prove well up to takin this

2.35 Itdosnot Botherme rates a solid e/w bet for me here, has run some solid races in defeat but the big plus is the step up in trip to 2m 6f, should improve for it imo
