Sadly, the grass isn't always greener on the other side, with Richard Forrsital reporting in his article this week that French racing is facing a financial crisis:
The returns to France Galop and Le Trot from the PMU fell from €838 million in 2024 to €803m in 2025, with projections for 2026 in the region of €720m, equating to a 14 per cent loss of income in the space of two years. That is a crisis in any language. After accounting for internal savings, France Galop is budgeting for a €45m deficit this year, and, as we know, the drive to identify efficiencies has extended to potential regional track closures and other streamlining measures such as a reduction in the number of mixed meetings and a reorienting of some racecourses towards specialising in Flat or jump racing |
