A cracking run later that season is when he split mr brooks and shiek albadou in a 3 way photo in the July cup, probably should have won with a little bit of luck

Pursuit of loves debut was at Newbury where he was 3rd down the field in 11th that day was penny drops who ended up winning the Cambridgeshire by an amazing 6 lengths with two cracking handicappers rambos hall and mellottie behind.

One of my horses to follow that year,Muhtarram finished 5th at 33/1...so I convinced myself he would win the Derby..like all the best ante-post he finished 4th(no extra places then)...really came into his own at 4 and 5..always thought Carson and him were the perfect match..in that 2000 guineas I think Pursuit of Love was nearly FAV,couldn't believe the price of the Lester ridden winner Rodrigo de Triano..

Dunlop was my favourite trainer of them all,you could always rely on him improving his 3yo/4yo..Castle Keep,Sea Chimes,Moon Madness and many others...a real shame how it ended up for him...just trying to keep the whole thing afloat rather than admitting defeat..

Posse was my favourite John Dunlop horse he was the horse interfered with when know fact was awarded the 1980 2000 guineas after Nureyev had finished 1st ,

Known fact was owned by a little known owner called khalid abdullah it was his first big race winner as they say the rest is history.

Sakhee was beaten by the most underrated Derby winner,Sinndar

He wouldn’t have been then lead on but for been French trained same with royal gait in the ascot gold cup ,ironically I felt royal gait could have been disqualified when winning the champion hurdle trained by James fanshaw then

Couldn’t agree more with your Sinndar comment (along with Troy) I named a pet dog Sinndar after him what a shame he never stayed in training at 4

I don't know if you recall Buz Kashi(Harry Wragg/Paul Cook winning the Coronation Stakes then being disqualified in favour of One in a Million...I could never understand that one..cost me a 33/1 winner..£2e.w(a small fortune those days)..still is todayExcitedLaugh

Yes another ridiculous decision buz kashi did nothing to one in a million bit like Nureyev known fact ,royal Ascot had had previous before my racing days the first 3 home in the Queen Anne were all throw out the horse on the outside leaning in the horse on the inside leaning out and the horse in the middle going for a gap that wasn’t there.

Another crazy decision was disqualifying Sir Henry's Vacarme under Lester in the Richmond at Goodwood back in 1983.

That one was a Wildenstein horse as well, he said Lester would never ride for him again afterwards Crazy

Of course he did and Vacarme sauntered home with him on board in the Mill Reef later in the year.

Lester's reply when told about Wildenstein's comments (about never riding for him again) was along the lines of  "guess i'd better retire then" Laugh

Made the worst decision of my betting life on Moon Madness.......kid you not was going to put 5 grand on , on the day of the leger.......changed my mind, and put the 5 grand on Innishmore Island, a dunlop horse who won on the same day....won by half the track at 4/5....not the 5s of Moon Madness.

i actually put £500 on Celestial Storm/Cumani for the legeer who won a trial for the leger earlier on, id backed it, and it was a good sized bet....

anyway, watching Moon Madness run away with the leger was painful....very painful..
