This is purely academic because the illegal arrival is still continuing in earnest, and will only increase costing taxpayers a mega amount daily, money could have been reallocated eg to pay down the National Debt or invested in a sovereign fund. But, UK Plc being such a soft target for illegal and legal immigrants the National Debt can only get bigger with time.

Why not pay the residents or sequestrate the Isle Of Skye or some similar British owned land mass to provide accommodations for the illegal arrivals and those with their immigration decisions pending? The money allocated for this could be re-directed to the present residents of the Isle of Skye as compensation. This will be a mega deterrent on the same scale as Rwanda.

the obvious point is people are breaking into the yuk and then using a unhc treaty designed to help those fleeing persecution from the ussr, and they sure were. but not now. something drawn up for a specific problem 75 years ago is now being used for reasons it was never designed to deal with. its that simple

Why do the same people not go to Russia, China, Singapore, Australia, S Korea, Taiwan, Canada, etc? Even the Nigerians are applying for asylum in numbers 2nd to the Pakistanis. What is the attraction of UK Plc? I can only think of the benefit system, nhs and the easy absorption into the illegal network of black and gig economy.

Care workers are moaning because there could be a change in the period for them to achieve an indefinite leave to remain (ilr) immigration status from the present 5 years. However, within this 5-year period the care worker and his / her family could access the nhs and free education for their dependants. Then after with an ilr the same care worker and family can access the benefit and housing system too.

A family of 18 from Gaza has won the right to come to Britain after launching a human rights challenge in the British courts.
The landmark case was brought after a Gazan-born mother-of-three - who came to the UK as a refugee and is now a British citizen – was refused permission to bring her extended family into this country.
Her relatives – both parents; a brother, his wife and four children; a sister and four children; and another sister, her husband and three children – won a legal challenge on human rights grounds.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood then attempted to have that decision overturned – but this week lost the case.
The case exposes yet again how human rights laws undermine Britain's border controls by overturning decisions made by the Home Secretary.
The Conservatives said the 'shameful' ruling risked 'opening the floodgates to thousands of Palestinians claiming asylum here due to Labour's pitiful adherence to flawed human rights laws'.
The Home Office refused permission for the Palestinians' application to come to Britain under refugee family reunification rules.
Their original application was lodged in late November 2023, about a month after Israeli forces entered Gaza in the wake of Hamas' October 7 surprise attacks which killed nearly 1,200 people.
It has now emerged for the first time that the family won a human rights appeal in the lower immigration court in April last year.
That decision led to an appeal by the Home Secretary in the upper immigration tribunal.
But Upper Tribunal Judge Gemma Loughran threw out Ms Mahmood's case, agreeing that denying the family permission to come to the UK breached Labour's Human Rights Act.
The Palestinians argued they had a 'right to family life' under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and won their case under Section 6 of the Act which sets out how it is 'unlawful for a public authority to act in a way which is incompatible with a Convention right'.
The whole family was granted anonymity by the courts.
The ruling showed most of the adult applicants could not speak English and that the UK-based sister would only be able to accommodate her parents.
The lower tribunal judge 'concluded that the applicants would require access to public funds', the ruling added.
The UK-based daughter and her three children had suffered 'mental health problems' caused by their relatives' 'situation in Gaza', the judge said.Referring to the lower court's decision, Judge Loughran said: 'The judge concluded that the applicants' refusal of entry clearance would give rise to consequences of such gravity for the sponsor and her children as to be unjustifiably harsh such that the public interest was outweighed.
'Accordingly, the judge found that the decisions made in respect of the applicants were disproportionate and unlawful under section 6 of the Human Rights Act 1998 and allowed their appeals.'
She added: 'I do not find the [Home Secretary's] grounds to be made out and I conclude that the judge's decision should stand. I accordingly uphold the judge's decision.'

if you divvy up achievements worldwide and domestic, it wins by a stretch, and pro-rata, by a light year
but its not for britons. thats the point
its great for incomers. being looked after by the yuk state is something utterly incomprehensible to those who bust a gut getting here who lived a life of misery in their homeland. even being a paraffin in the yuk is preferable
and the legal system maintains their prescence here for years. that only enhances the attraction

It could have worked in theory, but ultimately it was a big sop from the wet Tories. I don't feel like the people with real power in the government ever saw it as a full time solution. Just like the 100 in 1 out non solution, presenting a veneer of action. Quite apart from bending over to 'international law' at any given opportunity.
In addition to that, it would never satisfy those who are ideologically attracted to accommodating refugees. It's not about refugee safety, it's about reversing the existing culture. Which obviously isn't impacted by people being given safety in Africa.

I'm pretty sure their plot was to have one or two planes take off and run with it on the 2024 election. But they knew the game was up by the summer, the plot failed so he went early to end the purgatory. The stunt itself had failed, along with wasting a fortune on it.

The equation isn't too difficult as elections have been won via the promise to reduce permitted immigration for about twenty years. Including the big one. But they've all done the opposite. Up to the Brexit election they enjoyed the convenience of the EU get out. No wonder they tried everything to prevent the vote being enacted. Then of course, as soon as it was eventually enacted, along came lockdowns.
The 'in your face' state sanctioned boat people operation is in defiance of the people winning the argument via democracy (ie Brexit). In my view. Actually, there is more than a hint of communism about it, the flaunting of real power in the faces of the majority.

What's the answer if the country wants less immigration (I'd say it's at the point of wanting none right now), and whoever wins power the opposite occurs? It ceases to be a functioning democracy (I'd say we're at that point, too).

I want immigration. But, not the lot that is coming into UK Plc at the moment. I also do not want immigration being dominated by specifically two ethic groups from South Asia. I can see the deterioration in customer service at Asda predominantly staffed with South Asians. Most are clueless about products on the shelves, and the spoken English language.
It's no better at Asda head office either. AI could have done a better job with the English spoken on the phone. I struggled to understand most of the time.
